Highway 215 Western NC

I wanted to warn anyone planning a trip in Western NC. Highway 215 south, south of the Blue Ridge parkway, is in poor shape. 215 North was fine, but from 64 at Rosman, NC to the parkway, I counted at least 6 spots where the asphalt was coming up. Most of those spots were in curves.

Blue Ridge Parkway closure south of Linville Falls

Road Warning: NC Hwy 601 Yadkin County

There is a road widening project in progress on Hwy 601, between Yadkinville and Davie County. About 3 miles south of Yadkinville, near the 2nd caution light (Courtney Crossing), there is a 45mph-zone, which sometimes serves as a speed-trap. Just as you ride past the 45mph sign (you can see the caution light on the hill ahead) there are two sections of fresh pavement where wider culverts have been installed. The fresh pavement is BELOW the existing road surface, leavin a bit of a nasty lip...

BRP Closures

I read recently that the Blue Ridge Parkway have been closed due to landslides and damage from last year's hurricanes from Mile Markers 317-325 (near Linville, NC) and Mile Markers 347-349 (just north of Mt. Mitchell). Apparently the two miles near Mt. Mitchell have one lane open with stop lights regulating the traffic but the 8 mile stretch near Linville will not be open again until Spring 2006. Has anybody been down that way recently? It looks like a long way off the BRP to skirt the...

New fines aimed at Parkway speeders
