I need to change the front brake pads. I think I know what I'm doing, but looking for assurance. I already did the rear pads. That was easy enough, because the caliper rotates up away from the rotor so you can slip the new pads in. I used a C-clamp to push the piston back, and had removed the cover from the rear brake resivor so the fluid could return there.
Rear brakes are now working great , and there was no need to bleed the system. Any way, the front is a little different, it appears...

Fred, the previous owner must have soaked both the dust cap and the pin with locktite or some other type of super glue, I busted 3 screwdrivers trying to take the dust cap off, finally I gave up and drilled it out, the pin is also pretty much stuck I might have to drill it out aswell, I will see what I can do either today or sometime this week.

Eddie, there are two parts. The 'pad pin' requires an allen wrench to torque it to 13 lbf-ft. The 'pad pin plug' takes a straight blade screwdriver to torque it to 2.2 lbf-ft. Can you use an impact driver to get them freed up? Have you tried some penetrating oil, like WD-40?

This is perfect timing, I was trying to get at the front pads last night and I couldn't get the damn pin\screw out! I pretty much stripped the head, I want to know, is that a screw or a pin? I am talking about the lower right pin\screw. I don't want to go through removing the whole caliper and bleeding the brakes. Thanx in advance.

Thanks to all for the input and advice. I was able to change the front pads last night, with no problems. seems to be working fine , but I will test ride today. The old pads werent as worn as I thought, and may have been the original cause they were honda nifia ? ( bike has 28,000 miles, of which I put on 18,000 ). There was a thin metal spacer clipped to the inner pad which I reinstalled on the new pad. What is the purpose of that spacer and was I right to reuse it with the aftermarket pads...

Dave, until this last time I changed brake pads I had always done it when pulling a wheel off and changing a tire. Thus I had previously always removed the caliper. This last time I found I did not have to pull the caliper off. The pads will slide in and out after you pull the caliper pin. It's not that you would not be better off taking the caliper off, I am just letting you know that it does not have to come off if you do not want to take it off.

I changed mine last summer. I seem to remember being able to take out one bolt, loosen another and rotate the assembly up for access to the pads. I might be confusing it with the rear.

Either way, I was able to change the front pads easily. You shouldn't have any problems.

Ride safe.
