I've done all but the 19 miles closest to Red Bluff in a car and a about 25 miles of it twice on my brother-in-law's Victory Touring Cruiser. It reminds me of a combination of the Triple Nickel Highway in southern Ohio and U.S. 50 in West Virginia. Parts of it are like a roller coaster (like SR 555 in OH) with somewhat tighter than big sweeping turns, but sweeping turns never-the-less. I am hoping to be on that road in July. I will be visiting my brother-in-law in Redding. On the way back to SFO I want to take SR 36 and the PCH. It will be with my wife in a rental car, but that's OK. its a FANTASTIC ride, ride it west to east or east to west, you will love the ride and scenery.
this is the best time (late March to late May) to take this ride. it can get hot in June-August.
