You of course know the story that the Indians were shocked to see the Pilgrims eating turkey at the first thanksgiving. The Indians would not eat turkey for fear that they would become as stupid as the turkey was known to be. Seeing the Pilgrims eating turkey made them believe that the Pilgrims would become stupid too.

I didn't sit in the trees... but I was in the trees... make sense? I was sitting next to a tree.
Turkeys sure are goofy... I've seen one walk almost a mile to get to a gate in a barbwire fence instead of ducking underneath or flying over it. They can fly but just don't like to.
The big tom I got in NE last year, he was following a hen thru a pasture. the hen crossed a fence/road, but he just stood on my side of the fence and wouldn't cross. Turned out to my...

Kirk....you hunt turkeys up a tree? I don't think I've heard of anyone doing that before.

Last week a turkey hen got trapped in our backyard. It glidded in but could not or wouldn't fly back out. So my wife goes out into the yard and decides...

Alright Kirk, quit being so modest. If I have to tell then I will.
Well everyone, Kirk got his turkey and he was a beauty. After taking pictures, he dressed it out and did it taste good! We had some this past weekend.
He shot the bird Friday afternoon in our woods. At the time, I was walking behind my fertilizer spreader when I hear what sounded like a cannon going off. I darn near dropped some extra fertilizer in the yard, if you know what I mean!
About 5 minutes later...

Probably why I only had one 25 in my career... lots of 24's.

Kirk.....I've gotten more than my share of 25's when I use to shoot with my BT99. But my real success came when I went out to the range with my ole Winchester 1300. It was apparent to all the Cadillac boys that I was shooting with my turkey gun, but I was getting more perfect rounds with it than I ever did my BT99. You couldn't see it on my face, but I would be laughing inside every time...

I used to reload... just never found the time to do it on a regular basis... plus no good place to permanently put it. I ended up selling it and just buying shells.

You know the guys I'm talking about... fancy vest, fancy shooting gloves, shooting glasses with the blinders on the sides.... and yes, think they are better than they really are. I liked the guys with a tried and true hunting gone (not a 5700 dollar trap gun), dog in the truck, dip in the cheek... you know... good...

Funny story about Sis and shooting trap. We used to shoot at the gun club on a company sponsored team with some friends. When we started, I told her... "if you can beat my raw score with your handicapped score, I'll boy you Dairy Queen afterwards"....

I have been informed that you will be staying in the house and not the "cabin". That way you will have showering facilities and the like. Downstairs off the family room there is a spare bedroom, bathroom and even the use of the FR since we don't use it. With just the two of us, with five bedrooms and three bathrooms there is plenty of room. I drink any lite beer. See you Wednesday night. Bob

My son has an 870 and he uses it for trap, using a long turkey barrel and full choke. He does pretty fair with it. I do the same with my Winchester, using a turkey barrel and extra full choke. I've shot many perfect rounds with this configuration and it embarrasses me to say that I have shot better with my Winchester than I ever did with my Browning BT99.

Your wife shoots trap!?! How cool is that! She a woman of many talents.

For Turkey hunting, I have a Remington 870 SP... the SP just means that it's camo w/composit stock/forearm. It's got a little shorter barrel which is nice for turkey hunting. 12ga. I really like the composite, you don't have to worry so much about the elements or scratching it up for that matter. Wood always looks the nicest, but for an all purpose gun, one that gets worked and beat up like mine does... gotta love the composite.
For pheasants, I use Sis' American Arms...

Hey Kirk....what kind of a Turkey gun do you use? Make & Model. I use a Winchester Model 1300 with walnut stock and fore end. I detected at crack in the stock which is a shame and I've decided I might try going for a composite stock and fore end instead. I use this gun when I shoot trap. It was the one gun I did not give up in my divorce, because I knew it could serve many purposes.

Anyone else going turkey hunting this spring?

Is there still an offer to bunk in your garage while I hunt? I was thinking of staying with my nephew in town... but he keeps saying things like "Oh, we can go out to the bar and..." Cripes, I'm toooooo old to go out to the bars at night and then try to get up early and drag my butt out of bed before the crack of dawn! I'll be sleeping next to the tree instead of looking for turks!
