not to bad... I did a ride in late June... still waiting for the response.
My folks are still waiting for the goodies from our trip around Lake Michigan in July of 06. That's a little ridiculous!

i received my saddlesore 1000 certificate, license plate backer, membership number/password and other stuff from the iron butt association yesterday! so that was a little over three months for them to process and send back to me...
just in case anyone was wondering what the iba turn-around time was like currently.

The international peace gardens are nice. Camped there as a youngster. I would recommend going some time.
Now being from SD originally, I'm forced to poke some fun at ND. And being a Gopher Hockey fan, I am forced to hate UND.
That being said, ND is really a hidden gem. Great hunting, friendly people... beet fields as far as the eye can see.

fred, yes, i've been to peace gardens. very nice, haven't been there since i was a little boy however.
as far as a recommendation, i'd say on the western side of the state, visit medora and the "painted canyon." this was one of president theordore roosevelt's favorite places in the united states. see:

Never been in a snirt storm, but have been in a rain storm in Beijing that rained mud!! They had a drought going in Western China, strong winds brought up lots of dust that headed east. A big rain storm came in from southern China the two mixed and it rained mud. not dirty rain, I mean mud. Big drops, left quite a mess. I was standing there in my rain coat watching the cars get nailed, when it suddenly dawned on me my coat was getting 'muddied' also! I did finally step back...

Actually North Dakota is one of the three States that I have not had the opportunity to visit yet, but I sure hope to get there some day. I particularly would like to visit the International Peace Garden. Have you been there? What else should I see when I get a chance to visit ND?

North Dakota is specifially mentioned in USA Today's "The Weather Book" as being a place of extreme temperatures to the point that ND has higher temperatures in the summer than anyplace in Europe, even the most southern reaches of Europe, and also had colder temperatures in the winter time than all of Europe, even those portions north of the Artic Circle. The reason given in The Weather Book for that and also the tremendous number of severe storms encountered...

well, i'd have to ask my dad, but i'd imagine snirt is still around. i think only eskimos have more names for snow than north dakotans...
alepel, i must confess, i haven't been to your town of rochester (yet), but have been to syracuse in the winter. from that experience, i know that y'all know snow pretty darn well also.

alepel, yes, there are definitely great & awful things about north dakota. the summers can be very hot and winters...well there are few places around (outside of where our canadian friends are up north) that have winters as harsh. i've seen -40 degrees f, with a minus 80 degree f with wind-chill...it's just plain dangerous. and don't get me started about blizzards (whiteouts).

My weekend started at 2:30 this afternoon. With the exception of a roadtrip with my son tomorrow for a football game tomorrow, I will be available anytime. NDSU... the Thundering Herd... I went to Augie in SF... rivals back in the day.
I have a stock seat. that's most of the problem right there. I've tossed around the idea of getting something else, but spend the money on other things.

I hope we get a chance to run one of those rallies together. Would be a hoot.
What is the exhaust on your bike... most rallies have a "noise" level rule. You can't run load bikes basically.

do you have an original seat, or have you replaced it (mustang, corbin, saddleman)? mine is the OEM seat.
i checked out the glmc website, the rallies look fun.
i'm originally from fargo, nd, and have been to brainard (can't say i remember it...we moved to montana when i was in elementary school). we eventually moved back, i went to NDSU, and my father still lives in fargo. i get up that way every other year or so...

funny, on the tourer, doing the LD rides, my backside hurts until it goes numb and quits complaining. On my CBR, I don't have that problem. I'm assuming it's the riding position and my weight not being all on my butt.

As far as Rallies... I'm hoping TeamStrange does another MN1K, I'd like to join in on that. Otherwise I'll probably do one of the GLMC rides...

so last saturday morning i hopped on my T in st. louis and headed out for a 1000 miles in 24 hours.

i left around 6.30am, rode south to memphis tn before lunch, then on to nashville tn, up to lexington ky to arrive around dinner. i stopped in a suburb there to have dinner with a relative, then headed west thru louisville, indiana, illinois and back to st. louis at 2.00am. if i hadn't stopped for a couple hour visit, i would have made it in 17-1/2 hour or so (1050 miles)....
