Now that it's about to drop 40 degrees in a day, I thought I'd pose a question:

What do you do for cold weather riding?

This is both for conversation and education. I'm going to go St Louis to Texas in the middle of December and am a little afraid of the first 5 hours

Anyway, to answer the question myself: I ride the T voluntarily down to 28 degrees all year through, though misinformation has had me down to 20 degrees on a
couple occasions. Full face helmet, turtle fur,...

I ride all year long as well here in Denver, and as a former competitive Mt.Biker, I've found some crossover ideas that will help. Pearl Iszumi,(PI) makes
some great "lobster style" gloves. 2 fingers in each opening, that are wind/water resistent, and have primaloft insulation. Good to about 20 degrees.
I also use their thermal fleece tights under my jeans, and with chaps on I never have a problem. However, this year I will be trying out some chest waders to
see how they work....

socks, not on skin) and with something between your skin and hand, one in each glove would work fine. I find if I can keep my hands and feet warm, the the rest
is just a matter of good clothes and some wind protection from the bike.

A down winter coat, with elastic bands around the wrist seems to keep my upper body warm enough. Thermal underwear, jeans and leather chaps seem to keep my

When my kids were away to college, I would ride up on the weekends to visit. Some early spring days I would start out in the mid 30's. Dressing in layers
