Tony,

I for one will tell you that when I thought about buying a new Harley (for a very short time) I wanted one with ABS, the reason is simple. If you've ever
had to "lock up" you know how squirrely your bike gets. Well my son who lives in Ca. has a number of freinds who demonstated how they locked up both
wheels and were still able to steer around a stopped vehicle. Another guy had a deer run out in in front of him and was able to steer around it instead of
totaling...

When I bought my wing in 2004, I wrestled with the ABS vs non-ABS issues. The price difference was about 1k and I probably should have put up the extra money
for ABS. I can see the advantage, a panic stop, in a curve on wet pavement. So far I've gotten by without ABS and have had my share of panic stops.

Putting the ABS issue aside, what I really dislike is the linked brake system. Well, I only hate half of it. I don't mind the front lever being tied to
the rear brake...

Watching the Daytona 500 yesterday, I thought about Fred's comments regarding ABS. Nearly all the professional drivers locked up the front wheels
coming in for pit stops. If these guys can't regularly do perfect threshhold braking what hope do I have of completing a perfect stop in an emergency.
ABS is a good safety cushion in an emergency. I'd very much like my next bike to have it.

Dan,

I would really like to have a bike with ABS. I have been looking at the braking test results for years and you are correct. According to the tests that
Motorcycle Consumer News conducts every bike with ABS has longer stopping distances (usually 5% to 20% longer) than non-ABS bikes, even those of the same
model. However, the test results are produced using the best stop of several by a professional rider. The chances of me duplicating that professional
rider's efforts,...

I will endeavor to be more accommodating in the future. The only options that are offered on a Goldwing, that this one does not have, are ABS brakes and
airbags. The guy, Charlie Sheldon, that owns Southwest Touring Trikes (and does all the conversions himself) does not like ABS brakes on a bike. He buys his
demo bike completely loaded out, minus the ABS and airbag. He is 72 years old and has worn out more Goldwings than I have even looked at. I respect his
