my thoughts are if the government would step in and control the oil prices a little, the economy would BOOM!!! nearly every night here on the news, people are interviewed saying they have to give up this or that in order to pay for their weekly gas to and from work.

I've heard it explained a little differently. It's my understanding the rebate is a refund of 2007 taxes paid, according to the tax cut proposals submitted by the white house. If the tax cuts are sustained/maintained, we should see our 2008 taxes reduced. I'm not holding my breath on this one.

As for how the money will be spent...

Some will put it in a savings account.. ok.. a couple of people will.
