Hello T riders, The last few times I've gone out for a ride when I accelerate I hear what sounds like a engine ping. My 98 T has 14,800 mi. Maybe it's
time to change the plugs. I usually put 89 octane gas in it. Any input would be appreciated, Thanks, Larry

BeauJames, Well I cut out the resonators. I think it sounds alot better,DEEPER, but not too loud. Man that metal is HARD. I got a bi-metal hole saw and all it
would do is scratch it. I went to 3 different stores and couldn't find a metal only hole saw. I took a drill bit and drilled holes around the tip and
finished it up with a sawsall. I've still got to dress it up with a grinding wheel. I didn't do any adj. to carbs, runs good not popping. Thanks for
the reply. BE SAFE -RIDE...

It took me 4 3/4 turns out on the air mix screws to get rid of the decel popping. I also use 89 octane gas, which may or may not have anything to do with
anything but it runs great and has a nice burble on decel. I am running a stock filter and no other carb adjustments were necessary.

I started with just cutting the end of the res about a 1/4 inch from the weld and it sounded a bit better. About a week later, I took a small hole saw and
drilled out the guts of the res and it sounded better still. I finally decided to go all out. I had the 2 1/8 hole saw in the tool box that I used to drill out
the res on my 95 Shadow VT1100c that I had before the T. As soon as I drilled the entire thing out, the 2 1/8 fits exactly around the weld of the res, and

  Larry

I drilled out the resonators last year with a 2 1/8" bi metal hole saw and LOVE the results. A few others have since done the same and they seem to
like it as well. It does indeed make a difference by providing a much deeper, but not overly loud note.

Check to make sure you have the correct heat range plugs installed.
The manual lists 3 different heat range plugs for the T. I would run the standard plugs for your area. Also stay with the NGK's or Denso plugs. I have
tried others like Champion and Bosh and have had better luck with the Denso and NGK brands.

They are;

Standard - DPR7EA-9 (NGK) or X22EPR-U9 (DENSO)

I run 87 octane in my T and never have heard the engine ping. The engine has 2 plugs per cylinder. I suppose that one of the plugs could be fouled and you
would not know it. While 14k miles is not that many for the plugs, the life of them can be shortened dramatically if you or the previous owner ran the engine
with the choke on for too long.
