Well I want to bring this thread to a happy ending. My brother successfully won a bid on the Yamaha Venture Royale that he was bidding on. He even saved money on this bid compared to some of the ones he lost out on. Now he has to pick it up and wants me to go with him to get it. The humor to this story is that he bought this bike in Michigan not 50 miles from where I bought my VT800 a few years ago. So I get to make this whole trip all over again.

You can also use "bid Assistant" on ebay to do the bidding for you. You just save your searches to your watch list, then click on "Bid Assistant" to create a list for ebay to bid on. Put in your max bid for that listing and ebay will do auto bids up to that amount for you. Once you win an item in your list, then ebay stops bidding and alerts you that you have won or lost.

I've bought a ton of stuff off eBay (feedback rating 500+) and I've learned to bid what it's worth to me and if it's worth more to someone else, so be it. I used to try to snipe in at the last second, but I always forgot to log on until the auction was over!

Thanks for the help guys. I was talking to my brother last evening to ask him if he was using Craigslist to aid in his search. He told me he was but that he did not find anything. I had just completed a search on Craigslist before I called him and I found about 12 of the bikes he was looking for. I asked him if he was using Craigslist nationwide and he said he was not. So I talked him through a new search and he flipped out, he was so excited. I ended our phone call so that he could go...

You can also search for completed listings within a specified time period. Just type in the starting phrase to search for, and then when the search page opens, look in the column to the left of the search page and click on "completed listings". You're basically just doing a reverse search.

alain,
don't know what price range your brother is looking at, and i know you're a long way off, but this one is on k.c. craigslist. that's where i would check for one. i just don't buy "big ticket" items off ebay. pics can be so deceiving and owners can be so dis-honest. sure there are honest ones out there, but i've just never taken the chance. i like to "eyeball" something like a car or bike before i buy.
these bikes seem to sell pretty...

many times items are pulled early, it is because they are sold off-line. It happens and ebay allows it.

I've done the same thing myself. Always put it on your watch list
another trick... he could look in the "History" of his IE (or other browser) and he should be able to get back to that exact page... even if it wasn't in his watch list.
have him try that.

That's what I told him too. What I learned to do was to put a "watch" on a item I want to follow. After the item comes off of ebay you can always go to your watch and it will...
