I also use a Hitchdoc, which you can find on eBay cheap. As for wiring, you're going to want a Hoppe brand Powered Converter. This little gem completely isolates your trailer from your bike. If your trailer lights short out, it won't hurt your bikes wiring.

$50? Geez, someone ought to be able to convert it into something neat...even if you had to put a couple hundred into rehabbing it. And you're right, that's too far for me. But thanks, perhaps someone closer to you would be interested in looking at it.

wish you were closer to k.c. i know where there's one of those pop-up type camper trailers (small one) that can be bought for 50 bucks. it is gutted inside, which you'd want to do anyway, but still has the top. think it's aluminum, so would be light weight. needs tires, but it would be a great start. i've thought about buying it, but i have no desire to pull a trailer.

Occasionally the car top carriers show up on ebay and I've been checking craigslist for them, too. And...yard sales are starting to get into full swing, so who knows, perhaps a box will pop up in our neighborhood one of these days. In fact, next weekend, the unorganized yearly yard sale along highway 58 will give us a few miles of sales to peruse.

$600 for a ready built is a fair price.

If you go the HF way, most recommend replacing the HF trailer bearings immediately because several have failed fairly quickly. On sale the HF 12" wheel version runs about $200. A good quality top box will cost you around another $200. By the time you put it all together, you're maybe saving $100 vs the ready built, and you don't get the chrome wheels with the HF.

On the other hand, if you already have a top box, or can...

I ordered them from www .lesschwab.com I can't remember the price...all I remember is they were fairly priced. I also ordered the chrome valve stems and lug nuts. Don't ask...All of a sudden colored print...

Hi Dawn: Here is an old picture of the HitchDoc setup on the T. It is a great hitch and very solid...with lots of good chrome.

As far as a trailer goes....

I build this one from a Harbor Freight kit and a "clamshell" from Sears.

I thought about buiding a trailer. My thoughts were a simple frame then bolt a "Sears SUV Vacation" carry-all car-top box to the frame.

I've been filling up a "to do" list of great places to ride, and also a few things to do. Dad LOVES to build stuff (you should see the golf bag rack he built so he can tote his clubs to the course on the motorcycle!!). I've been toying around with the idea of building a trailer for Matty to pull, and having Dad and I do it together would be cool. Time to start...
