Seats, Corbin versus Mustang

I love the look of the Mustang seat and was lucky enough to find a very nice one (like new) w/drivers backrest on e-bay for $450.00. I'm 6' tall, long arms and have a gimp leg (brake side). I replaced the stock foot pegs with Cobra floorboards and boy did that help, I could get my feet farther forward. But, after installing the Cobra crash bars thats no longer the case. I really do like the crash bars and would rather not get rid of them. I'm not a fan of highway pegs mounted to the crash bars, so that's not an option either. I have read from several posts that the Corbin allows a bit more leg room. What I need to know is just how much more. I've located a Corbin and would appreciate some input before making an even larger investment. Thanks Guys, Greg

I do think that Cobra really screwed up designing the crash bar and the floorboards cause like you, my feet hit the bars when I try to move my feet forward. Oh well. HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 401 03/01/08 7:50 PM	Hi Greg, I have ridden both seats and can offer my experience. The Corbin is biult a liitle more toward your stature. It will move you back a little; however, it also sits you down a little. I'm 5'5" and the Corbin was just an uncomfortable fit for me because it made me stretch my arms too far forward. I do have exceptionally short arms. I rode each seat about 50 miles on other people's bikes before I made my decision. I bought the Mustang. My arms are so short, I still needed more pull back on the handlebars, so I made some modifications there to get them back about another 3". It is of course a matter of personal preferance, but I suggest the Corbin is a better fit for someone your size. If you havent seen the Kuryakyn foot rests, I suggest you look at them. They are very adjustable, not only placing your feet to the outside of the crashbar, but down and forward also. Hope this helps. Posts: 5937 03/01/08 9:41 PM	Greg, The Mustang seat moves you forward and higher. Maybe 1 inch forward and a 1/2" higher. The Corbin moves you back and lower, maybe a 1/2" each from the stock seat. More importantly if you have a tender butt is the Corbin gives a whole lot more support. Even though the Mustang seat is several inches wider, it is flat side-to-side and does not cup your butt therefore that width and then some is wasted in regardings to supporting your upper body weight. The full width of the Corbin seat supports your upper body weight. Also with the Mustang unless your inseam length is less than 32" the slope is too shallow to give you any thigh support. Regardless of the inseam length the shape of the Corbin seat will give you thigh support. If your legs are really short (inseam < 30") the Corbin will "bite" into your thighs when your feet are on the ground, but Mike Corbin doesn't care about that. He designed the seat to be comfortable while riding. The 3 different densities of foam Mustang seat feels like heaven when you sit down on one, but for me with a 34.5" long inseam and a scrawny butt (protruding ishial tuberosities) my upper was only supported by an area 6" wide by 5" front-to-back. That only got me about 60 miles before I started squirming. Despite the fact that the Corbin only has a thin layer of hard foam (by design) the 14" width of support by the 9" of support front-to-back allows me to ride 130-150 miles at a time in comfort. I have put over 51,000 miles on my Corbin seat and it is still just as comfortable as when I first got it. Fred

HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 56 03/02/08 2:42 PM	Fred, Thanks for the input. I removed the Mustang a couple weeks ago and reinstalled the stock just to test the difference. Being up higher on the Mustang put me farther away from the floorboards (which is what I need) but much closer to the handlebars (which I don't need). Sounds like the Corbin will probably do the same as the stock but with more support & comfort....and a backrest! I've studied the Corbin's on their web site and wish the one for the Aero or Sabre (not sure which) would fit the Tourer, (it won't). It appears to have less depth(farther from the boards). I've decided to buy the Corbin and modify it with a slightly thicker seat bed if necessary. I also intend to modify the shifter so that I can get my foot farther forward on the floorboard. Gotta be comfortable! Thanks again, Greg
