If rocks, hammers, baseballs bats or bullets were flying at my windshield I would rather have it made out of polycarbonate to deflect those items from contacting my body. On the other hand, in the case of an unfortunate fly-over, i.e. you flying over the handlebars would you prefer the windshield break-off or catch you and throw you back on top of the bike? Fred

I was raised in Newark, NJ...... looks like a typical Saturday night ride to me. I kinda like the idea of catch and not release.

HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 136 09/19/07 1:20 AM	Fred, i use to drive a truck for a living and one day some kids threw a rock the size of a baseball at my truck. it went through my windshield, missed my head but put a lot of glass in my eyes, missed 5 weeks of work until i could see good enough to drive again. so yes rocks, hammers and baseballs do fly. not to mention the HWY's out here are really starting to fall apart. thats why i like the back roads so much. in the case of an unfortunate fly-over, i would rather ride on top of my bike and not have my bike run over me. did that a time or two on the dirt(bike run over me). ROD no the police did not find the little bastards. So many roads so little time !

Posts: 5864 09/19/07 4:59 AM	A couple of weekends ago, if I would have had a polycarbonate shield perhaps I would not have had such a hard hit on SR 16 in Virginia. My Rifle acrylic windshield broke outward barely slowing down my forward progress after hitting a 12" dirt ridge in my off-road excursion. Maybe I would not have landed in the middle of the road, but more towards one side and at a slower speed. On the other hand, maybe I would have landed at a different angle that may have broken bones or otherwise done more damage. It is so hard to tell what could have happened. I am grateful not more damage to my body or T did happen. BTW, how many other companies besides National Cycle sell polycarbonate windshields? Fred

I think it broke when the bike rolled over because I don't remember going through it. It's scarry to think it could break nasty like house hold glass.

The frame work would at least give way upon impact. It's gonna hurt like sin either way. Alan: There was too much dust in the air before I looked over through the turn when you went down. You probably rolled off the side during the first rotation. I couldn't tell if you high-sided or low-sided (or perhaps both?) . The video seems to tell us that our riding gear must also protect us from our own windshield. With both mishaps there were significant jagged pieces of scrap windshield. But if the Clearview breaks easier, I hope it would break off before penetrating the leather. The concept of tempered glass is that it breaks easily into pieces small enough to minimize injury. I have the Clearview +3" ... so I guess I'm just trying to logically justify my selection. - Rich

Posts: 233 09/26/07 3:02 PM	We probaby don't have glass windshields because bike makers are trying to save money everywhere they can . I am sure it woul cost alot more to make a glass windshield to fit the T . It is possible , but would cost alot more than the plastic ones we have . I am also not really sure it would be any stronger , it would just break into smaller peices like a auto windshield does . Without the frame to hold it into place it would just collapse when it did break though , not stay in place like a car windshield . I am not sure which I would prefer to run into if ejected from the seat , neither sounds very comfortable . But at least wit glass it wouldn't have to have all of the polishing that the plastic ones need to keep them nice . Bag Rails Needed!!!!!!!!!!!
