Does gun control involve a registry of gun owners and or serial numbers? Just handguns? What defines "control" and who does it?
I believe the founding fathers wanted to insure our rights to protect ourselves, our families and our property from threats both foreign and domestic with deadly force, if necessary. Do I believe in shooting someone because they pissed or cut you NO! I believe in "control" if it means that owners have to take safety courses for hunting AND protection I am all for it. I believe 'education' and training will benefit the public just as it does law enforcement and military. As with the war on drugs, time has proven making something taboo just entices the irresponsible to desire and often abuse it. Lets just enforce the laws we have on the books in the courts. Sorry for the "rant". I just believe in the constitution. When they took the fourth amendment, I was quiet because I didn't deal drugs. When they took the sixth amendment, I was quiet because I was innocent. When they took the second amendment, I was quiet because I didn't own a gun. Now they've taken the first amendment, and I can say nothing about it. Whenever you sacrifice your freedom for security, you get neither. ---Benjamin Franklin |

Gun control, banning whether it be hand guns, the so called assault rifles, semi-autos or what have you, restrictions that little by little eat away at our right to own a gun until we become like England, I saw on TV were they can't own guns at all. I believe in the Constitution as well, and wish that our government would leave it alone.

Ya, I own lots of em !!!!!!! Each of my boys has a gun rack full in their bedroom. I taught my boys (18, 18, & 20) the use and respect of firearms when they were very young, and there has never been any problems with them. They don't understand why kids shoot up schools. They don't understand the need for all this violence in our society. But they do understand that a person has a right to defend himself, by deadly force if Necessary !!!!........There are some parallels between the "war on drugs" and the "war on guns". Over the years there have been tougher laws for both. Lots of dollars have been spent on both to enforce these tougher laws. But are drugs less of a problem now? Is gun violence less of a problem now?..... Seems to me that we need to take the profit out of drugs, and allow "the people" the right to defend themselves....."If at first you don't succeed; try, try, and then give up. No use bein a damn fool about it."---Mark Twain

I agree Pac... even Wiley E Coyote knew better than to try the same failed approach time after time.
I like the Mark Twain quote... I will have to steal that one... |

Gun control is not about guns, it's about control. Criminals like gun control. It makes there jobs easier. A potential prowler never knows if a homeowner is armed or not. This may give them pause.
And if you are REALLY against law abiding citizens having guns, why not put a sign in your yard or on your house saying "There are no guns in this house". Not being willing to do this would be a little hypocritical don't you think? |

To me gun control means, maintaining a firm grip. The gun grabbers don't get it: taking guns from law abiding citizens, interested in personal protection will not lower crime rates, those who use guns to commit crimes are willing to break the law, what makes anyone think that the criminals are going to obey anti-gun laws. Everywhere it has been tried, it has failed.

So like 83% own guns (and answered the poll).
It reminds me how long it's been since I've been to the range. Think about it, 45 to 50 thousand automobile fatalities a year, that's right, over 45,000 deaths EVERY YEAR because of cars, and they want to take guns away..... It's not guns that scare me. Alan |

I own them as well and think over control is at hand. The bad guys will allways have guns so whats the point in keeping them from law observing citizens? The guys I know at the range are accurate, honest, and respectful. Thats more than I can say for the politicians, lawyers and corporate CEO's in this country.........

Of course I own firearms. I've not pointed any of them at any living thing since 1965. I had seen too much blood shed before then to ever want to be part of splling more, but let someone threaten me or my loved ones and they will be back in action again. I am personally tired of people meekly submitting to some tough or another and still be blown away by some crazed addict looking for drug money or some sadist that gets their jollies by hurting people then spendin an average of seven years in prison before being turned loose on the public again. A well placed .357 magnum is a much more effective deterent to those types. If that makes me a hawk so be it, but I am tired of the criminal element having their "rights" given precedence over that of the innocent public.

Well stated Lou. I still hunt and target shoot with my kids. "Take your kids hunting, So you don't have to hunt for your kids" (Ted Nugget)
Since this topic has been revived let me ask this. How many legally carry while riding ? If you do what's your prefered method of carry. The laws vary state to state so it gets confusing when on a road trip as to what method to use in each jurisdiction, open, concealed, inform or not.... Jay |

Yes I own guns and am one of those who believes in the moto "It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6". .
No I am not a fanatic but do believe in my 2nd ammendment right. A close study of the constitution may just reveal that this ammendment was as much about protecting one's self against the goverment as it was about protecting against others. When I was a Senior in highshcool I wrote a term paper on gun control. My research brought to light a little known fact about how Hitler came to be in total control of "his" country. During Hitler's early years he told the German people that war was inevatable. Germany would be invaded and that the military did not have enough weapons to protect it's citizens. He asked that all citizens tell him what they had that could be used for a weapon to help protect the fatherland. The people gladly registered their weapons including firearms, knives, pitchforks etc. At the conclusion of this registration Hitler formed and unleashed his SS who promptly confinscated all of these registered weapons so his countrymen could not protect themselves against him and his regime. We all know what happened after that. Registration! No, I don't think so. History does have a tendancy to repeat itself. Clay "Stumbling block, or Stepping stone, the choice is your's"

Very good Clay
I see you know your history. I whole heartedly agree with you. It's a shame there are so many sheeple in this country that belive anything the media throws at them. The Canadians and Brits said it would never happen to them... now look what they have

Hey Rag, another good example of gun registration is our nations capital. Yep Good old Washington D.C. has some of the strictist gun and registration laws in America yet it also has one of the highest crime rates in America. I guess they have more crooks there than the rest of the US?
