front brake pin bolt stripped |
Lead | ||
|
Hi, I tried to do an easy task today, change front pads. Did rear last fall, real easy. When I put front ones back on, the pin bolt apparently stripped
out,(wouldn't thread into the bracket), boot ripped. Just wondered if this happened to anyone? Do I need to order new bolt and bracket it threads into? or
can I just put a regular bolt through there or have it rethreaded or something? The caliper just slips over the boot, so thought maybe I could just run a bolt
thru there, sticking out same length as original pin bolt?.
Any thoughts on this. Thanks Randy |

ok, here's a parts diagram.
Are you referring to #10 or #9? Either way I think you're best off replacing the stripped bracket and bolt. We are talking about the front brake here. I personally would not try to heli-coil it or anything like that. I don't know if the bracket is unique to the AceT or not, but if it is then you're not likely to find one at a recycler. But Ron Ayers prices the bracket subassembly at only $35. That's the good news. good luck, duke

Thanks for the reply. It was 10 the pin bolt. I was stupid and tried to put caliper back on with bracket attached to fork and
messed up the bolt and the threads on bracket and thus couldn't get it started. My son had the taps and stuff and was able to fix it and get it going quickly, which is nice with this weather. Nice to know can get them that cheap tho. I thought they were close to $100. When we put caliper back on, we attached to bracket first, was lots easier. Thanks for your help. Randy |

Hey Bob,
I am no ace mechanic, but the rear brakes were pretty easy. I think 4 bolts and off with bags and then pretty easy. Mine were pretty tight , so took a good allen wrench to brake loose, but other than that very simple. Good Luck Randy |

Wow, sorry bout that, hard to read. Rear brakes were pretty easy. I think 4 bolts and bags were off and then
simple. I forget sizes, but I needed a good allen wrench, cause it was tight, other than that easy.
Good luck, Bob Randy |

Randy, Thanks..I saw it in the manual and it looked simple, but hearing from someone who has done it confirms it. I have the rails around the bags, but they
shouldn't cause too much of a problem...Bob <><
