Hello, I am a longtime goldwing rider who has spent considerable time on the naked wings and the Interstate GL1200. I spent a lot of time customizing a
standard GL1200 as a touring cruiser. Now that I have a T, my wife gets my 1200 that she has been lusting over for some time (she had the GL1100). I just
bought a 2000 Black T with Mustang seat (backrest and studs) and tank bib, sissy bar, crash bars, floorboards, headlight and blinker visors, V&H pipes, and
saddlebag racks. Overall, a pretty sharp looking bike. My brother owns the Harley FLHTPI and thinks mine looks just like his. I took my first ride on her
today and am starting my list of customizations. First, I need to get some more leg room! Between the floorboards and the mustang seat, I feel pretty
squished. Second, I need new rubber and have appreciated all your postings on that subject. Looks like I will be ordering the Valk E3 for the rear and stock
size E3 for the front. I haven't decided what to do about the leg room though and can't even figure out what crash bars and floorboards I have, as it
is not stamped anywhere. I don't want to run into issues with the mounting, especially with the sweet V&H pipes on there. Well thanks for having such
a great website. What a resource!

Congrats on the best bike on the road, and glad you found this forum. You will find there is a lot of info here, and that we love our 'T's. After some
time on your 'T' you will probably see why we feel this way about the bike. Welcome to the forum where you'll find more than just posts, but a
whole lot more. It's more like family. Welcome again!

First of all, welcome to family, Dave. As far as putting more space between the seat and floorboards goes, I'm thinking that you may have to go with
forward controls. I don't know if this is possible on the T as it has a slightly different frame that the other VT1100's. I know the VT1100 Aero has
factory forward controls on it as well as the VT1100C Spirit. You might take a look at one of these bikes in person and compare the mountings to yours. Add
some digital pics of the boards and crash guards to this thread and maybe some of us can help identify what you have.

Sorry Dave.....when I posted earlier I did not realize that you already got to the New Member section. Well again welcome to the forum. As I said earlier I had
seen this bike that you got and was thinking about it myself. Glad to read it was such a good deal. Now where that Bike I'm suppose to get?
Again welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to talking with you more in the future. Perhaps on my next visit to Michigan to visit my ole forum buddy Putz, you might like to join us. I get to Michigan about 3 - 4 times a year to visit my sister-in-law living outside of Detroit. alepel |

Welcome from Texas, Dave.
Great looking bike. It's the "right" color too!!! Looks like your bike has Cobra engine guards, highway bars (please don't call them "CRASH" bars!!!!). As for the leg room. I know it's comfy, but replacing the Mustang seat with a Corbin will give you a bit more. Again......Welcome to the group!!! -Dan |

Glad you found us Dave. Like Dan said (you can believe what he said this time), a Corbin will give you more room than the Mustang. It is about an extra 1-1.5
inches. That just may do the trick. Bob

Thanks for the warm welcome! I will post some pics as soon as I take some. Is there any way to get an email when someone has posted to my topic? Or do we
just log in and check once in a while?
Based on what you all have said, I only see 2 options for getting some more room. Go with a seat that sets me back further, or forward controls. Mopam and Jardine make forward controls, neither are cheap, but the Mopam's can be found at $330 or so. From what people here are saying, I would most likely have to remove the crash bars, er engine guards (is that better, danbgt?). Like Dan and Bob said, I could also change to a Corbin seat (also not cheap!). I really like the look my mustang seat with studs and conchos with matching backrests and tank bib! Sigh... What do the rest of you 5' 11" folks do? This is my 8th motorcycle and the newer they get, the less leg room I have! |

Hi Dave, Welcome to the forum from South Mississippi. I have about the same set-up as you. I also like my Mustang seat with studs and conchos, have the cobra
highway bars and floorboards. I am 6'4" and my conclusion is that motorcycles are made for shorter folks. I have the Kurakyn foot pegs and that helps
some on a longer trip.. Anyway, the "T" is a great bike and I hope you enjoy yours...Bob <><

Dave,
I am 6' 2" tall with a 34.5" inseam. I have foot pegs mounted on my Cobra safety bars. With my Corbin seat I do not feel cramped to shift and brake with my feet on the Cobra floorboards. For long rides, I have the option to stretch my legs by putting my foot on the highway pegs.

Well, looks like I will go with the Corbin seat then! Thanks for the advice. Turns out, my floorboards are made for a Harley. They are attached kinda funny
like. I am thinking about changing them sometime. They are nice boards though and have rubber spacers between the deck and base plate to absorb the
vibrations. Do the Cobra boards have that? And do they fit around the V&H pipes (doesn't sound like they do). I posted some pics in the Image
section. I will play around with the profile some more later. Looks like I will have a virtually brand new Mustang seat with backrest and studs (not even
broken in, guy just put it on) for sale. I will probably Ebay it, but i will let you all know if and when that happens. Let me know if anyone finds a decent
Corbin seat out there!
Thanks, D |

Dave,
Nice pictures. Do you currently own all those bikes? I do not have any rubber cushion on my Cobra floorboards. V&H pipes will not clear the Cobra floorboards unless you make a different mount. Spirit floorboards will clear the V&H pipes. Your T is decked out nicely.

If I had the room for all the bikes, I would sill have them all. Alas, I must pawn them off on others. The Magna was Dad's Father's day gift a few
years back. The GS750 went to little bro (okay, I sold it to him, but it was a good price). The Yamaha 650 (not pictured) went to my nephew. The GL1200
interstate was sold. I traded the GL1000 with my older bro for a GL1100, which my wife made me put a Harley fender and other misc parts on (for sale
currently). When she bought me the T, it was with the understanding that she would get the customized GL1200 Standard (you won't see another like this
one, I will post a newer picture sometime, hardbags, etc.). I usually buy one a year, fix it up and eventually sell it. I believe, it is my quest to find the
perfect bike, but my wife thinks I just like working on them.
