Bob and Bob: the one-wheeler, rolling, fixed-platform trailer looks like it could work--and I'd get to take the T along! I want to run it by the factory rep from Cedar Creek, but after seeing the pictures on the back of a Hitchhiker, he would have to say yes or admit Cedar Creeks aren't built as well as Hitchhikers. Al, Kathy and I bought our first RV back in 1978. It was a 19 foot, class C motorhome. Since then we have had pop-ups, and travel trailers and we currently own a 26 foot class C, but we have never owned a fifth wheel. We are selling our home because I want to get away from the city. I honestly can't imagine not having a home-base to return to after our travels. We own two pieces of property in central Wisconsin and will build on one of them eventually. One lot is 3 acres of row pines and has lake access and deeded dock space across the street from the second largest lake in Wisconsin. This lot also comes with all the mosquitos anyone can stand. The other lot is 6 acres of hardwoods waaaay up on a ridge with views that go on for miles, and no mosquitos. Although I plan on adding a well and septic to the six acre lot for the RV, we simply have not been able to decide which lot to build on. Buying a fifth wheel gives us a really nice, one bedroom apartment we can park anywhere, and it allows us to to defer the decision of which property to build on until we are sure of where we want to build.
Bob was pretty accurate about the advantages of owning a fifth wheel, and what we considered before making the purchase. Also, there is no way I was willing to spend over a year in my 26 foot class C, and, since we almost always buy new, there was no way I was going to stick over $100,000 into a depreciating asset (a class A motorhome) without even owning a house. The bottom line on all of this is that we will have a great deal more living area than a class A, much lower initial cost, lower insurance premiums, higher gas mileage, and we'll have to pull over when my wife wants to go to the bathroom.
Dukey, my wife--nicknamed Monk--has a pretty sensitive sense of smell. She is torn between building a house with an attached garage for the convenience, or a detached garage to avoid the smell.

Bob, we will be spending about a month in the Park Rapids area this summer, and we'll be staying in the new RV. I decided to keep my little Dakota pickup. It will be towing the Lund.
