I rode from Corpus Christi, TX to Tucson, AZ. Not the smartest thing to do in the end of June. My trip started off a day late due to severe thunderstorms and flooding in the Texas Hill country. I think the Weather Channel made it out to be worse than it was, but I wasn't going to risk it. I made it from Corpus Christi to Las Cruces, NM the first day. Somewhere around 800 miles. I typically got around 35mpg at 85mph. (Speed limit in west Texas is 80mph)
I considered going on into Tuscon, about another 4hrs, but when I stopped at Sonic to get something to drink my legs were a bit wobbly. I have to say that my body didn't really hurt, even with the stock seat. Stayed the night in Las Cruces, and made it to Tucson by 11am. It was 107 degrees in Tucson, not matter what speed you travelled it, it was freaking HOT.
Met up with my old college buddy, went to lunch at Hooters and downed a couple pitchers of beer. We went in his car with A/C blasting and it was still hell. The whole purpose of the trip was to relive some of the college days, and to take a road trip. He has a 03 Yamaha Roadstar 1600.
After heading back to his place and buying more beer. We proceeded to play Playstation 3, NCAA Football, and consume beer, just like in college. Ahh, this explains why my grades weren't good enough to make it into Pharmacy school.
Kinda just bummed around the next day nursing a hang over until it cooled down in the evening and we just putted around town seeing the sites.
Eventually, I fought the wind back to Texas. At one point getting only 22mpg in windy west Texas. I really enjoyed the trip, the bike ran great, the only disappointment was the extreme heat and gas mileage below what I had expected. Of course the Corbin seat I ordered showed up the day after I returned from my trip. All told I did about 2300 miles in week (really only 4 days of riding). Once I get the backrest on the bike, the wife and I plan on taking a few day trips. Here are a few pictures.
