Tinting a shield |
Lead | ||
|
I may be nuts for even thinking about it, but I have been considering having my shield completely tinted, not totally dark but dark enough to give it a more
custom look and something different. I have the OEM shield so I look over it vs. through it. I like the look of the tinted shield on the HD Streeglide
fairings. Thought it might set off the black bike with a dark shield with the chrome mounts. Opinions?

You do know that Clearview makes a tinted version of the factory shield, don't you? It would be very difficult to get the tint film to contour to the omni
directional shape of the T's windshield (meaning that it curves in all directions). On car windows that have an omni directional glass, they lay the tint
in narrow strips which overlap one another at the edges. Then they use a razor blade to trip off the overlaps. While this is OK on hard glass, it would damage
the softer plastic on the T's windshield where the razor blade was used. If you really want a tinted shield, my suggestion would be the Clearview, or maybe
an after market shield entirely.
Here is their link. If you recognize the Black T in the top photo, then it is Stephens T's bike. But don't say anything to him about it. It just might go to his head, which is already 2 sizes bigger since becoming a T owner.

Stan....I never noticed that vented windshield on Stephens T before. I just checked the old pictures on the forum and noticed it was not there. He must have
added it after the photos. I like it.

Clearview offers the vent for an extra $48.00. Not a bad price.

I had totally forgotten about hew difficult it is to attach tinting to curved surfaces. I did look at the clearview shields but I was thinking about much darker. Oh well, it's raining here today. Just need to be happy watching Jr kicking butt and taking names.
