Jeff Cook bit his lip and sobbed Thursday before asking a Cuyahoga County judge to lock up the man who killed his brother.
"I'm living in hell," Cook said, straining to contain his emotions as he talked about the loss of his brother, Eddy Roland, who was killed when a car crashed into his motorcycle last summer.
Common Pleas Judge Dick Ambrose gave Roland's killer, 20-year-old Mario Redding, the maximum sentence - 18 years in prison.
On July 10 - Roland's 21st birthday - he was driving his new 2007 Honda motorcycle through the intersection of
East 186th Street and St. Clair Avenue when Redding ran a stop sign, hit the motorcycle and drove off.Roland, of Eastlake, was wearing a helmet but still was severely injured.
Redding, of Euclid, was out of jail on bond at the time of the crash. He was awaiting trial on drug trafficking charges.
Ambrose said Redding was a high risk for offending again and therefore deserved the maximum sentence.
