HSATF Member Posts: 24 10/17/07 8:53 PM	Tags : None I hope somone can help me help a friend. He has a 95 wing that shuts down when put in gear. I have not personally seen the the bike but we conversed by phone. He says that the bike will start fine but dies when shifted. I told him how to check the sidestand switch and it doesn't appear to be the problem. THoughts anyone ? thanks, beemer90

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 755 10/18/07 9:30 AM	Yeah, I'd have thought of the sidestand switch first too. Is it possible the clutch stiction is causing it to stall? Before starting the bike, place it in gear and with the clutch lever pulled, rock the bike back and forth until the stiction breaks. I realize that may not be easy with an 800+lb GL1500. duke loud horns save lives

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 4012 10/18/07 9:28 PM	My Suzuki VZ800 did that when I tried to unload it from the truck. Turned out to be the clutch safety switch had gotten unplugged at sometime during the strap down. The soft tie strap must have tugged on the wire harness enough to pull it off the switch. It could that or a bad clutch switch. The clutch switch allows the bike to be started in gear with the sidestand down while the clutch lever is pulled in. HSATF Member Posts: 24 10/27/07 6:15 PM	My buddy called today with an update on his clutch problem. SLAVE CYLINDER....easy enough to replace if i could have gotten him to wait. What i am happy about is he took my advice on which repair shop to use. He lives 50 miles from me and thought that hauling his bike up here was too much of a pain. But Sonny at Sonny's Cycles in Florence, S.C. is hard to beat. He's a crusty old #$%%$#@ over the phone but if you go to the shop it's like meeting an old friend. He specializes in Hondas but can, and will fix any type of motorcycle.
