Well I'm happy to report we had another enjoyable week at Americade. Arrived on Sunday the 1st and left for home on Saturday the 7th. Both the T and my
son's Magna ran great all week without a hitch. By the way, pulling a very fully loaded trailer and with a passenger on board I averaged 41mpg! Thats with
some very diverse riding conditions as far as roads traveled go. The best part of the whole week was the almost complete absence of Rain! It only rained during
the night on Tuesday as we slept, then another overnight rain on Thursday into a misty Friday morning drying out by noon. For Americade this is a rare week
indeed. The dry ride over and back to Maine was most welcomed.
Unfortunately I have been having issues with my hips and lower back this spring so I decided against any demo rides. My son Richie however took advantage of several of the OEM's offerings. He tried out the Victory Vision with his mom as passenger (very squirrely, almost scary low speed handling, great on the highway), the Triumph Rocket Three Tourer, again with mom on board (power, torque, low speed and highway handling, weight distrubution all first rate), Kymco 500cc scooter (surprisingly peppy and fast, he had it up to 80mph again with mom as pasenger), Kawasaki Ninja 600 (nice!) and KTM's Duke and Super Duke ( he is now totally in love with the Super Duke, demoed it twice!). The Kawi and KTM's he took out solo.
We purchased a few items at the Expo, enjoyed dinning at several local resturants and chatting with numerous Americade attendees. Spotted 3 ACE Tourer's this year but did not meet the owners. Talked with a gentelman who I noticed was taking pictures of my ACE T. Turns out he is thinking of purchasing a Red & Black 98 from a friend. Asked about any shortcomings the bike had and was surprised to see that I was pulling a trailer.I informed him of this forum of course and asked him to check it out.
I attended one of Fred Rau's morning Coffee Club gatherings. Free coffee and donuts and he gave away several gifts that Whitehorse Press/Gear had donated. If you ever get a chance to meet this man do it. He is very knowledgable of the motorcyle industry, very personable, as is his lovely wife and they both have a wonderful sense of humor.
I took very few pictures this year, mostly of the son and wife sitting on demo bikes. We have such a collection of Americade pics that they are getting redundant!
On Friday evening we attended the awards and fireworks at the Great Escape. Very large crowd in attendence. FYI, the couple that won the longest distance award to attend Americade was from Australia!
Overall we had a great week in Lake George that simply flew by. Wish some of you guys could have been there!
