i left around 6.30am, rode south to memphis tn before lunch, then on to nashville tn, up to lexington ky to arrive around dinner. i stopped in a suburb there to have dinner with a relative, then headed west thru louisville, indiana, illinois and back to st. louis at 2.00am. if i hadn't stopped for a couple hour visit, i would have made it in 17-1/2 hour or so (1050 miles). i've sent in my application to the iba for verification. they say on the website it takes some time for their turn-around time (anyone able to relate their experience?).
not that long ago, i read ron ayres "against the wind" and it sounds absolutely crazy. 11,000 miles in 11 days? that's crazy talk. but at the same time, i found the desire inside to have a little taste of that crazy (afterall, i've also done some mountain hiking that some call me crazy for as well). i had a great time, and would like to spend more time riding long distances, but would like the time to stop and take some photos and enjoy the scenery at a little more casual pace.
