put the bike in the garage last week and have been working nearly every day this week on it. took just about every piece off i could and cleaned it, waxed it,
changed all fluids, installed new rear tire/wheel assembly, cleaned all electrical connections and put 'er back together with all the "goodies" i
had collected over the winter. still have an alarm, tank bib, and driver seat backrest to install, but going to take a break from her for now. i've got
'er to a point where i can ride....now if spring would hurry up and get here. later, bud

Looks like you have been very busy Bud, and your labor is really showing off. Looks great.

thanks skip, this bike was probably the dirtiest i've ever bought. looked like the guy had ridden it for a month or two, then just put it up without doing
anything to do. BUT, i could sort of see the "diamond in the rough", and by pointing out how dirty it was, got me a great buy on it. plus, he
admittedly said it was just too much bike for him...he was ready to sell! thank goodness, it was inside and nothing had rusted on it. i'm really anxious
now to get it out for a good ride. wasn't really sold on the green, but it sort of grows on you, and it actually looks better in reality than in the
photos.

Green looks good to me Bud, especially the way you shined it up. Way to go. Have fun riding her.

Green is one of my favorite colors and this bike looks just fine to me. There sure is a ton of chrome on this bike. Tell me is the gas tank really two tanks. I see two filler caps and I know with some Harleys that does not mean two filler necks for gas. I'd love to see this bike out in the sun. Good luck with this one and enjoy many happy miles.

I'd love to see this bike out in the sunexactly what i told lillian yesterday. the green and silver both seem to have a little pearl in them and i think it'll look even better in the sun. problem is...finding sun ! suppose to be 65 here today(but
cloudy)and snow tomorrow!
alain, both of the gas caps are fake. i ordered some harley caps off ebay and installed them on the tins. these bikes are like the 'wings...the tank is under the seat and the tank sides hold the air cleaner (the air cleaner cover is just for looks also and i've got an indian one to install yet). the chrome lid in the center of tank sides lifts up and the filler is under it. if you remember, i had one of these bikes a couple years ago, and everybody thought it was a harley. once in branson, at a motel, a harley dealer from wisconsin was looking it over in the parking lot and commented on what a nice harley it was!!! these bikes are also oil cooled, not water cooled, so that throws a lot of people also and the battery is down in front like a lot of harleys. i really like the bikes, but they are HEAVY. that's one of the reasons i sold the other one, but when this one came along, it was just too good a deal to pass on. later, bud |

kcroadrocket wrote:Bud....please explain how you "installed them on the tins". How did you do this? Could you please elaborate? The old street rodder in me loves to fabricate more than anything else. So you've peeked my curiosity about how you fabricated the installation.

O.K. alain, i wouldn't tell just anybody my installation secrets, but since you're a fellow hot rodder, i'll tell you....just don't tell
anybody else
. i used double back tape!! this is the same way i
installed them on the other LC i had and they never came loose. in fact, with these, after i got them installed, i noticed one was off about a 1/4" and
that bugged the heck out of me. so, i went to take it off and straighten it and it took about all i could do to pull it loose. make sure you use a
de-waxer/de-greaser first on the metal, especially if you've waxed the bike a lot...and i'm sure you have as glossy as that black beauty of yours
looks. these come from drag specialties for 20 bucks on ebay and they are really nice ones. i checked the auto parts store, but theirs are 3" diameter and
the chrome isn't all that shiney, plus they were more than these. there are two different attachments underneath. on one i had to grind a piece off to
make it sit flat. you do need to use the good tape, not the cheap stuff. on these bikes, i could have drilled through the fake covers and mounted them with
screws, but i didn't want to put holes in the tank in case i ever decided to remove them, and this is the way i had done them on the other LC and never had
a problem.

Bud....thanks for sharing your "secret" with me. Still have a question though. Is it just the cap that is held on with double sided tape? In one
photo I swear I see the bung but it could just be the inside of the cap. Does the cap have a flat spot to sit flush on the tank, or is it recessed like normal
filler caps? AND isn't the tank rounded? How did you get the cap to sit flush? Okay that's it.

alain, would have answered sooner, but i've been out RIDING...in a t-shirt!!!! what a february day here in k.c....70 degrees!! downside is, 3-6" of
snow by tomorrow night, unbelievable.
i think what you see in the photo is a reflection. wish i could show you the underneath before i did this. the one i ground off left about a 1" diameter metal piece on the under side and that's where i put the tape. the other cap had a more recessed under side and i put multiple layers of the tape 'til it was built up where i wanted it. on the other LC i did this to i gutted the whole underside and then cut a piece of hardwood the thickness i wanted, painted it black and epoxied it to the underside and that gave me a large area to put the tape on. just barely had enough underneath sticking out so the cap wouldn't ride on the tank and scratch it. this time i did it differently and it works great. like i said, it would take a lot to pull it loose. man, i thought i had this bike cleaned....excuse the dust. later, bud |
