Rocket III Tourer |
Lead | ||
|
I was out and about today and found a Rocket III Tourer at the BMW-Ducati-Triumph dealership in Matthews, NC. Those bags sure are big. Chicago, I am sorry to
tell you the stock exhaust on that bike has a 90° take-off for the left muffler. I hope these pictures give you an idea how big the saddlebags are.

The more I see and read about the R III T the more I like it.

Having ridden the regular Rocket III with its rear tire so wide (240mm) it is a fight to stay leaned over in a corner I would like to ride the Rocket Tourer
with its reported good-handing 180mm. I am not sure when I will get a chance. Perhaps Triumph's demo truck will be in Myrtle Beach this year for Bike
Week. I hope so.
I know they will not be at the Honda Hoot. Probably for the first time in their 18 year history only Honda will have a demo team at the Hoot. What's that all about? The Hoot was the first rally to invite all the various demo teams and over the years they have hosted demo teams from all the Japanese brands as well as Buell, Victory, Boss Hoss, BMW, Triumph, Ducati, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi and maybe some I forgot. Sadly, it seems the Hoot as a motorcycle rally is slipping badly.

Reading the article in Motorcycle Cruiser mag left me with impression that they fixed a lot of the problems associated with the Rocket III (cornering and slow
cruising). If ever I should decide to replace my T, this would be it.

Hmmm! Could it be that the other manufacturers know that they can't compete with Honda and therefore just don't bother with showing up? It's my
understanding that they are still invited, but they decide for themselves to not bother.

Fred, I don't see how else they could have done the exhaust except for 3-into-1-into-2, unless they somehow split the middle cylinder exhaust in half and
run 3-into-2. However, with 2300 cc's of engine on tap, I don't think lack of power will be an issue.
What makes me mad is that of all the new '08's, I wanted to throw a leg over this one the most and Triumph wasn't at the Cycle World show in Chicago yesterday.

I guess that sounds rougher than it is. I'm always happy to get back on the Tourer after demo rides. It just has a great balance of features/attributes.
I have to ride something else to fully appreciate what I have!!

Has any one else noticed those bags are remarkably similar to the Yamaha Royal Star Tour Deluxe's hard bags? http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelimagelib/413/14/1/0/image.aspx

Rich....very observant of you.
Trust all is well. haven't heard too much from you lately. My mind is on Americade again now that I have the application in my hands. I'm hoping for weather at least as good as we had last year. I hope to do just a bit more this year than last year. I've been promising myself a boat trip to get it out of my system. I also want to travel Rt 8 from Hague back to Indian lake. Last year Phil and I took the route from west to east and it is certainly worthy of one more trip but this time east to west.

Hello Alain. Yes I have been keeping a low profile lately, basicly just the winter doldrums. I do check the forum every few days, just haven't felt the
urge lately to jump in with a comment or two. It could also be mild mental exhaustion from doing pretty much the same job for the last 30yrs!
On a happier note Joanne and I will be celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary this month. Thats a long time to be with one person but I wouldn't want it any other way. And yes we do plan on attending Americade this year. I'm looking forward to meeting with you and your brother again to chat and possibly share a meal together. Rich |

Rich...I know the feeling about doing the same job. This is my 37th year with the "company" and I'm about as tired as they get. Well Spring will
soon be upon us and we can both get out and do some riding.
My brother seems to be in "love" this year, so I'm uncertain how much time he and I will be spending together, but I plan to be there. And of course dinner with you and Joanne and you son would be most welcome. We can pinpoint a time and place later in the year. Least I forget....Happy Anniversary to both you and Joanne, the value of your togetherness speaks for itself when people meet the two of you. Wishing you both 35 more great years together.

Congrats to you Rich and Joanne from the both of us. And you are correct that it's a long time to spend with one person. I know........Carol and I will be
celebrating our 35th this May. I wouldn't know what I would do without her now. I'm sure you feel the same.
