Highway 215 Western NC |
Lead | ||
|
I wanted to warn anyone planning a trip in Western NC. Highway 215 south, south of the Blue Ridge parkway, is in poor shape. 215 North was fine, but from 64 at Rosman, NC to the parkway, I counted at least 6 spots where the asphalt was coming up. Most of those spots were in curves.

Thanks for the warning Mike. I was hoping to do a loop that includes state roads 276 and 215 since they are both curvy, curvy roads and they meet in Woodrow, but having been on torn up roads before, notably 536 in southeastern Ohio, it takes most of the fun out of it. It was great that the Dragon got paved a few years ago. Nothing could be better than a curvy road in excellent condition!

Hey Fred,
How do you like living in the sunny south? I still need to get you those pics... yes I am a slack , but I've had the wonderful problem of being covered up at work, and now I am gutting and reworking my kitchen.Anyway, 276 was in great shape. There is repaving going on just north of Brevard as you enter the Pisga forest, but it appears they were not working on the weekends. And the Blue Ridge Parkway was open in that area, and in wonderfull shape. If you are going to be on 276 soon, let me know, and I'll join you, if you want some company. Mike |

Mike, so far I love living in the South. What's not to like. I can ride all year round and the roads are curvy!
Thanks for the invite. One of these days I would like to ride the Cheroke Foothills Scenic Highway, from near where I live to near where you live, then turn north on SR 276. I will let you know when I get a chance to do that. Hopefully you will be able to go too. Fred |

Just wanted to update this. 215 north of Rosman, NC has been patched up, and is in good condition. This is a wonderfully curvy piece of road with great scenery
and little traffic, and one of my very favorites. It is kind of narrow, and there are quite a few blind corners on the southern portion of the road, so be
careful.

Mike,
I drove on the stretch between Rosman and the Blue Ridge Parkway last October. It was not newly paved, but it was not in bad shape either. I think you had mentioned earlier that the section that was in poor repair was north of the BRP. Did you ride that stretch yesterday? It must have been awefully cold.

Fred,
Your right, it is not newly paved, but it is in much better shape than it was the first time i rode it. Now you don't have to dodge pot holes in the south bound lane. And no, I did not ride it last weekend. Anything below 45 degrees is no fun for me. I can do it if I have to, but this ain't about having too. Mike |
