How about I just scored a new Metz ME880 130/70R18 on ebay for $51!!! Had a couple of others biding but they played smart and didn't drive the price up so
after watching it for about a week I flew in and snatched it up. Coming in from the left coast so it should be here in a few days. Seller has already shipped
this morning. I already have a ME880 180/70R16 on the back so now I will have a set. I had these tires on my 95 Shadow VT1100c before and LOVED em.

Congrats on the find. I'm still looking for a deal on a rear for my GL1800. I just put a new ME880 on the front.

YES! I am so glad I'm not the only one who mines eBay for great tire deals. Right now, I think I have 3 Valk-sized rears and two fronts, all D206's, so
I'm good for awhile. Does eBay ROCK, or what?

I get about half my tires that way. I'll start looking a couple of months before I anticipate I'll need it and have found 4 of the 8 tires I've
replaced. The other half have been a mix of local discount shops or online from Southwest or American. I always ask the seller for the tire's build date if
they haven't included it in the auction description. If they won't tell me, I move on. It's not a deal if the tire is so old and hardened it
doesn't grip and is dry rotted. I don't need the freshest tires, but I do need tires that grip decently in all weather conditions.

I asked him for the build date and he sent me these codes (BOE0800 and A444c) but I have no idea what those are. He might not be the sharpest knife in the
drawer. In the description it was stated that the tire was new, had never been mounted and did not have any cracks. It is supposed to be delivered Tuesday so
we will see.

I asked the Dunlop reps at the Cycle World show in Chicago about what time does to tires and they said if the tire is stored out of direct sunlight and
isn't cracked, run the heck out of it.

UPS delivered the new Metz today and it looks just like it came off the assembly line. Still not sure about a build date so if anyone knows how to find it, let
me know but it loks good to me and I will get it mounted this week. I'm stoked!!

Well then it looks like this tire was made in Feb of 2000 (0900), but I see no signs of aging anywhere on the tire.

Metzeler and some other tire manufacturers recommend replacing anything older than 10 years regardless how it looks. Chicago's quote from the vendor rep is accurate, but you never know how old tires were stored. Sunlight, ozone and temperature extremes all greatly affect the materials and condition of a tire. In the first year or two, it's not as much a concern as the rubber is still fresh and pliable. But as the years go on, the materials become less tolerant of detrimental conditions. Besides, I love the smell of fresh tires. Crusty old tires that have a sheen on them are just too scary for me.
