Posts: 5696 02/26/08 12:49 PM	Tags : None I was wondering why only Honda will have demo rides at the Hoot this year. I thought it may be because the Hoot has been losing attendence for the last 4-5 years, but what Honda said in this year's brochure is However, it does not seem all the manufacturers are going along with this. I do not know if anybody other than Victory plans on crashing the party, but I hope so. I wonder where they will set-up their demo fleet. Despite the looks I want to see how that new Victory Vision tourer rides. Fred

HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 465 02/26/08 2:08 PM	I hope Honda has reconsidered and is trying to get some more demo trucks to show up. I too would like to ride the Vision. My buddy and I have been joking that his unfortunate incident with the BMW K1200R sport last year scared away the other manufacturers. I hope one totaled demo bike wouldn't keep them away. Tony

HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 465 02/26/08 5:06 PM	My buddy that I go with to the hoot very nearly every year ran wide in a turn and crashed a K1200R sport in spectacular fashion on the demo ride last year. Miraculously he was fine but the bike was totaled. You said the Friday BMW rides where very tame, that's because our thursday ride was a bit to fast. i did love the K1200GT we rode Tony

Posts: 5696 02/26/08 9:52 PM	Tony, I really enjoyed riding the K1200GT when I demoed one a few years ago too. It's got a sweet engine and is not bad ergonomically either. I see BMW has demo rides during Bike Week in Daytona. I wonder where else their demo fleet is going this year. They have been at the Hoot every year without fail, I guess except this year unless they are going off-site like Victory. Fred

HSATF 2nd Officer Posts: 465 02/27/08 9:59 AM	Fred, I did notice in MCN's events there was a BMW riders group event the same week as the hoot. I have to wonder if the demo truck will be there instead. They where not at he hoot the frist time I went 4? years ago they just had a small tent with no demo rides. Last year had the most demo trucks that I could remember BeauJames, I think one could see the vendors in one day, there are all in one spot. The rides are the main attraction to me. either the Honda rides or just get out and ride the surrounding area. The latter is what Fred (and most others from this forum) usually does. I usually do the Honda rides. I think if it was just me (no SWMBO) I would be riding with Fred. Doing a Honda ride doesn't ensure better roads just a catered lunch, lots of other folks to talk to, and usually an event. Ideally I'd like to do some of both. Tony

Posts: 1901 02/27/08 12:15 PM	Fred, I'm not sure how Honda can enforce their demo ride wishes. Yeah, they can stop them from being in the main park, but I don't see how Honda can stop Victory, HD, Suzuki and Kaw from setting up a trailer along US129, 411 or 441.

Posts: 5696 02/27/08 12:35 PM	Tony, Since 2000 I have been to 6 Hoots. The most demo fleets I have seen there were 9. That included 8 on-site and Boss Hoss in the house next to the demo ride parking lot. Over the years many have brought their demo fleets to the Hoot. It used to be all four Japanese manufacturers were represented every year along with at least BMW and sometimes Buell, Triumph, Aprilia, Ducati, Moto Guzzi or Victory. These days it seems that Bike Week in Daytona and Americade are drawing 12-15 demo fleets and the other rallies a lot less. I know that Victory will be in Concord, NC, just 30 miles from my house, the weekend of March 28-30. They will also in North Canton, OH the weekend of May 15-17. Their schedule not including rallies is at http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/VRA/NewsEvents/Fullsked.htm . If the weather is bad the last weekend in March, I will try to ride a Vision during Bike Week in Myrtle Beach in mid-May or during the Hoot. Victory's demo fleet seems full time this year. Is the BMW Riders Group Event in Knoxville at the same time as the Hoot? James, Considering there are parties every night and different rides every day to see or do everything you have to be there all week. On the other hand, if you are going for one day, Sat. is a good day since there are demo rides in the morning to mid-afternoon and the expo vendors drop their prices as the day goes on (since they do not want to haul remaining inventory home). HSATF Road Captain Posts: 386 02/28/08 12:57 PM Road Captain	Speaking of Victory, I was at a motorcycle show in Grand Rapids Michigan Saturday. Not a very big show, but a Victory dealer was there. I sat on the new loaded Victory Tourer. It seemed comfortable and well-balanced. The dealer told me that they are not allowed to sell that particular bike I sat on until next fall. They are supposed to use that one for test rides. Not a good quality image from my camera phone. But notice this bike already has some aftermarket pipes! Didn't get to hear the sound though. Also had other additions such as the GPS. So ... once the weather warms up, I guess I'll have to go back to Grand Rapids to take this thing for a ride. - Rich

Andy, Honda has a pretty air-tight pact with Knox County. No motorcycle related vendor sites are allowed anywhere in Knox County (except at Chilhowee Park) during Hoot week. There are a number of vendors who set up in a field next to a Holiday Inn just over the county line in Seveir County, but anyone who sets up in Knox County will be shut down by the police as soon as they are discovered. Looks like they are going back to Japan, maybe the economy is playing into this factor. Honda may not want to sell any other product at the Hoot. I hope to be there this year with Fred. HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 546 03/01/08 2:32 PM	Here's the response I got from a Hoot planner: Hi, Robb, Per our meeting with Honda in January, because it is the 15th anniversary of the Hoot, there will be Honda demos only this year. If your friends are considering not coming to the Hoot because there will be only Honda demos, they are making a BIG mistake. Wynonna Judd will be performing at the Closing Ceremonies and no measly motorcycle for the grand prize this year. It is an all expense trip for two to Japan! FYI, the trip & closing ceremonies can only be attended by those who sign up for the entire Hoot. Stony Stony
