Congratulations Duke. That's quite a buy!
I remember demoing one back in 2000. To me it felt like a sportbike despite its 800+ lb weight and its luxury touring status. It also got Honda to update the Gold Wing after 13 years of the same model. One thing I will never forget about the LT is watching a BMW guy demonstrate the small turning radius. He was doing figure-8's that were comprised of two 12' circles. To see him go from full handlebar lock in one direction to almost instanteously full lock in the other direction and quickly scribe out those full circles at what seemed like full lean was most impressive. His point was that the best the previous generation of Gold Wings could do were 18' circles. I hope your LT brings many tens of thousands of miles of luxurious enjoyment.

Duke....I don't typically dwell at looking at BMW's, but I've got to tell you that your new bike has really caught my attention. I stare at this photo and I want to climb all over this bike. My curiosity is really aroused with many of the features I see in the photograph. Tell me....does the trunk slide off? Please post more pictures! Congratulations on a absolutely gorgeous looking bike. Now excuse me I want to go back and stare at that photo some more.

Duke, I'm seriously jealous. I've been drooling over the LT's for a few years now. I think if the '05's come down in price just a bit
more I'd have a problem. Looks like you found a nice one. Congratulations. I hope you have found BMWLT.com it's the second nicest form on the web.
Those guys love to farkel witch is one of my favorite parts of that site, seeing all the cool original modifications they do.

Thanks to all for the good words.
I will have to make a decision soon on which bike to let go. I now have 3.5 bikes in the garage and it's very crowded. K12LT ACE T Vulcan 500 and a companion parts bike ..and I can easily guess how y'all would vote.

I gave some thought to buying a local K12LT that was for sale about a year before buying my T. These are not for short people so I opted for a T instead. They
are beautiful machines, though. Congratulations!

Hey Duke, Congratulations!. I also demoed the K12LT up at Americade (I think it was 2004). Hell of a nice bike. During the demo, the BMW 'leader'
really blew out onto the highway, so I got the chance to jump on it. I got it up to about 105 in nothing flat. What a ride!. The only thing I knew that I would
have to used to is that low gearing. Twice I killed it taking off from a stand-still. I hope you many many joyful rides on it.

Duke,
I just recalled two 'fun facts to know and tell' about the BMW K-LT bikes. A buddy of mine has on older 1100/1150. When he puts the bike on the center stand, it is so perfectly balanced you can get the front tire off the ground by gentlely pushing on the trunk with one finger. We rode with him and got caught in a rain storm. The K-LT offers so much protection that only the fingertips on his gloves got wet. Of course, all of us on traditional cruiser were soaked. Enjoy your rides. Andy |

Duke, I can understand your amazement at the new scoot! I have looked at the K1200LT myself from time to time, because I like the "goldwing" modern
style of bike personally rather than the harley style (nothing wrong with it, just not really for me), so my Venture Royale is a good one for me, but it will
need replacing someday. I don't really like the newest Wings, so that leaves the BMW pretty much for a frame mounted fairing touring bike.
I have been wishing that Kawasaki, Yamaha or Suzuki would go back into the voyager/Venture style of bikes again, but I better not hold my breath. I sat on a new K1200LT at the IMS in Chicago a couple weeks ago, and it was OK, but not exactly right for me. How adjustable is the bike? Anyway, enjoy, it looks beautiful, and should give you lots of grins. Don Washington IL |
