Headlight & Brakelight Modulators |
Lead | ||
|
I added a Diamond Star headlight modu and a Back-Off Wig-Wag brake light modu to the T. Both are wired in with soldered joints. The flashing headlight really
works. Cage drivers actually stop at exits instead of that creeping crap they do. I see them actually looking at me trying to figure out what they're
seeing, and they stop at stop signs instead of rolling through while their tiny brains try to calculate if they can intimidate/ beat me through the sign.
Headlight modus can be lifesavers. The Wig-Wag seems to get drivers to brake when I do instead of seeing how close they can get before having to brake. Also
stopping farther back from me at traffic lights. They have the whole rest of the world to stop in, and they just have to see how close they can get to my ass
while waiting for a light. Do people today feel so powerless in their lives that they have to sit in a cage and use it to intimidate others? Or more
importantly..... Are they so stupid to think that they're safe from me behind a thin piece of glass? I got both modulators from "Value
Accessories" on the web. Fast service.

The headlight mod unit fit right into the headlight housing with room to spare. Easy to install. Cut a few wires according to instructions, twist, solder, heat
shrink wrap, shove it all together. I just left the electric eye attached to the throttle cable with a wire tie. The brake light is a bit trickier. I mounted
the control box under the seat and had to run an extra wire from one of the brake lights back to the control box. I kinda ran it outside the fender for now and
I will neaten it up by putting it in the wire run when/if I take the rear wheel off or if I just feel like taking the rear fender off. Nothing visible and no
sharp edges... just not perfect.
My
maintenance credo is: If it ain't broke, don't fix it. If it doesn't keep me from riding, fix it later. I've worked over 40 yrs as a
Millwright, Pipefitter and Heavy Duty Mech and a general fixit guy. If you have more money than time you can always get one of the headlight modulators that
simply plug into the headlight. Also I find that using the small wire nuts and a piece of stretchy electrical tape to connect wires will work just fine.
Everything I post is strictly my opinion. It is worth exactly what you paid for it. If you choose to take offense that's on you. Have a nice day.

OK Fred..... let's see what ya make of this.......There's nothing like a patch of wet leaves for leaving skid marks in yer skivvies. Or maybe...... Any
ride that did less than $100 damage to the bike was a good one. Your life may someday depend on what the person in front of you drank for breakfast. Was that
push or pull the left bar to go.....uh..... was it right or the other right? And, of course, the main rule of safe riding: Consult Magic 8 Ball before starting
engine.

Alan,
I keep hmm'ing and haw'ing about a headlight modulator. Will probably get one but I'm wondering if they will become transparent to the cagers. I remember when GM first introduced day-time running lights, it seemed I could spot a GM car from a mile away. Now I (and others) probably don't see them. I installed my Back-off taillights over a year ago. I've noticed the same results that you did... cars seems to stop about 10-15 feet behind me. On a couple of occasions I've had cagers at a traffic light tell me "You must have a short in your wiring, your taillights are flashing". At first I would try to explain my setup but when I saw the blank look on their face, I learned to say "Thanks,... I'll look into it". Andy |
