NEW! Just bought 98 Tourer yesterday! |

I joined a few days ago knowing I was buying a 98 Tourer this weekend. Plus I just figured out how to post, I think??!! Anyway I am back into riding after 35
years. I bought a Honda Rebel about 8 months ago so I would have a better chance of not killing myself, took the safety course and have been riding the 9 miles
to work most days since. Of course I found out this was fun again but I needed a bigger bike. Been looking at different bikes for awhile and came to love the
Tourer look, size, etc. and found a nice "98 with 13,000 miles. Just picked up yesterday. I love it already. Any pointers on things I need to watch for,
inspect, etc. Glad to be part of the group and hope to meet some of you in the So. Cal. area.

Welcome Papa, and congratulations on your purchase of a T! I am new here, too. Purchased a '98 T last month, and have already learned so much by browsing
through the various threads.
Look forward to getting to know you. This is a super friendly forum - you've instantly got a bunch of new friends. Glenn Jesus will rock Planet Earth! (Revelation 6:12-17) Are you ready? |

Papa,
Welcome to the Forum. Things to watch out for are: * primary gear noise, * burned up stator, voltage regulator and the connector between them, * broken exhaust welds, * dirty switchgear that results in the turn signals or starter ceasing to function. All these are written about extensively in the various technical sections. Another thing to watch for is that your face does not crack from smiling so much as you ride mile-after-mile on those beautiful CA roads in your area. Do your best to make up for those 35 inactive years and have fun!
Fred

papapaca....welcome to the forum from very chilly Upstate New York. You're going to fit into this group very nicely. You've already uttered my favorite
words. "I love this Tourer". I've been known to say it just a few hundred times.
You beat me on the time away from Motorcycles. I was away for 30 years before jumping back on with a smaller bit. I just got my T last April, picking up a 98 with 3850 miles on the odometer. I couldn't love it more. You see, there I go again. Again welcome to the forum and please do explain the Mitchell bomber in your avatar. If your interests are in aviation, you may want to go to the "Off The Bike" thread and read a few of the postings under the "Riders and Flyers". It was started about three years ago by our forum brother Louis Brown known as hombldr. Lou left us earlier this year after giving up a valiant fit for his life with illness, but he shared many stories with us about his life-long career in aviation and the many famous people he knew personally. Looking forward to "talking" with you more in the future. In fact I'll be in LA in March with my wife visiting our kids. Perhaps we could meet up then.

Welcome to the forum.
It is always good to see an other West Coaster. Not to many Tourers out here. I am from Tahoe and also have a 98 T (cream & black). Maybe next summer we can organize a West Coast get together. Happy Holidays Roger
