Man, That sounds great Kirk! One thousand miles in 24 hours. Do you suppose they could change the rules to say one thousand miles in four days? That is more
my style.
By the way, love your new picture. Bob |

I am picturing sport bikes and speed. also- I see they are limiting gas tanks to 11 gallons ?!!?!? Hmmm... I have the standard 'T' 3.6 (or
whatever) which doesn't measure up.
ions It would be fun to participate ( I live in MN, grew up a couple miles from Leo's) but would have NO delusions of winning or placing...just finishing would be a major accomplishment ! |

exactly my frame of mind. In my limited rally experience. When I get the bonus list, I pick out something/someplace I really want to see. Then build my route
around that. I have no vision of granduer. Did I spell that right? Anyway. There are actually very few sport bikes and it's not about speed at all. It
really is the tortoise vs the hare.
It would be great to see ya there!

I thought I'd give you guys an update on my MN1K....(miny trip report)... no pics, because they were all with a polaroid.
The rally kicked off at 8:00 on Saturday morning. I was one of the last out of the lot, since I was not using a laptop/gps, only maps and my melon (which let me down a few times). I was still going over maps, etc, and figuring out what I wanted to see. Many of the locations/points were in eastern Iowa and I really didn't want to mess around with the flooding, so I stuck to MN and Eastern Iowa. Some highlights, I saw the Red Baron Museum in Marshall, MN (I wish I would have had more time to snoop around)... The remains of the "Farther and Gay Castle" near Sacred Heart, MN... I saw the Tri-State marker (IA, SD, MN) which I saw when I was in college but don't remember (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).... and riding thru the Loess Hills region on IA (beautiful riding there). I ended up finishing second in my class (sport bikes) with just over 8,000 points and I rode 1,026 miles. Had a great time

lol... yeah polaroid. they don't want anybody "photo-shopping" any proof that you were somewhere. So, we do the polaroid method.
That'll need to change soon, since they anounced discontinuing producing the film.

Congrats Kirk. Glad you had a good time and found some places you would want to ride to and visit again. That's good stuff!

I forgot this little tidbit I was going to share with everyone... One guy rode a Can-Am Spyder on the ride. He finished with 1198 miles in the 24 hours. He had
nothing but good things to say about it. Especially in the rain. He said it was part motorcycle/snowmobile/ATV but not like any of them. Well built machine,
not something just "cobbled together in somebody's garage".

I can believe that Kirk. It would be about impossible to cobble together a vehicle that has traction control.

Thanks for the ride report. Sue and I rode the Loess Hills area from Missouri all the way north through Iowa on our bikes last summer. We thought it was very
nice as well. Congrats on the showing and just being able to survive 1000 miles plus in 24 hours. Bob
