HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3539 01/30/06 5:26 AM	Tags : None The HD Deuce risers are chromed billet alum and bring the bars back and up about 2 inches over stocks. I was able to use my factory cables but they had to be re-routed to gain extra length. These provided the extra comfort I needed to accomodate my short arms. I took a 70 mile ride today and man what a difference. I can actually lean against my backrest now and still have both hands on the bars. "> The whole process took about 4 hours to complete but 1/2 that time was due to the planning and head scratching associated with doing something like this for the 1st time. Since the harley risers use 1/2" bolts instead of the 12mm studs on the factory risers, I had to have the machine shop custom make a set of stud bolts that were 1/2" on one end and 7/16" on the other. The holes in the T's triple tree were too small for the 1/2" bolts so by shaving part of a 1/2" bolt down to 7/16" allowed them to fit through the triple tree with ease. See the pics below. Sorry about the image sizes. I am new at posting pics so this is experimental to me. If you would like to see larger or better pics then send me your e-mail and I wiil send them to you that way. I just replaced the original pics with better images from photobucket. I hope this helps. HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3539 02/01/06 3:23 AM	No problems at all, Jay. The risers sit about 3 inches above the tank and is about 3 inches short of the gas cap. Cables do not bind but will have to be re-routed. The only thing that is borderline is the brake line. I had to slide it up about 1/2 inch through the holder on the fork brace. I really don't like it running behind the triple tree so I may opt for a longer one later. but it works fine the way it is. I bought the risers from a HD dealer on ebay. They were brand new and I got them for $46 shipped to me ($39 + s&h). But keep in mind that you will have to have special bolts made to mount them with. The steel sleeves in the T's triple tree are about 1/16 inch too small for the 1/2 inch bolts to go through. If you had the right equipment you could also just reem out the steel sleeve enough to gain the extra diameter, but that steel sleeve is case-hardened steel and very tough. It's posible that I may be able to get the bolts made for you. Mine were done for me by a friend who is a machinist. What he did was take a grade 8, 1/2 x 4inch 13 thread bolt and turn down all but 1 1/2 inches of it to a 7/16 inch diameter shaft and re-threaded it on the other end. I'll have to check with him to see if he would be interested in doing more of them and for how much. All said and done my total cost was $60 ($14 for the bolts and machine work, and $46 for the risers). It was worth the aggravation to me because I was having trouble finding 6 inch aftermarket risers for under $200 elsewhere. The dealer I bought the risers from talked as if he would sell more for the same price if he has them available. Stan " Old enough to know better, yet young enough to keep on doing it!"

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3539 02/01/06 7:02 AM	Jay, the bolts we used were 4" long. About 1.5" of it was threaded and the rest smooth. We cut the head off and turned the remaining smooth part down to 7/16" diam. then threaded about 1.5 " of the smaller end for a 7/16" sized nut. You'll also need two large outside diam. washers to fit on the 7/16" side of bolt plus a lock washer. Just make sure they are grade 8 for max. strength. The machinist said that he had to put three - 1/2" nuts on the threads so that he could chuck it into his lathe w/o damaging the threads. Any other questions then feel free to ask. I tried editing the pics size down to 50% through PhotoBucket and re-posting but it did not work. Any thing you can do from your end? If not, then do you know how I can do it from my end? Posts: 5460 02/27/06 6:54 AM	The size of the pictures are 800 x 600 pixels. That's not too big. When you get over 800 pixels wide some viewers may have to scroll left to right to see all the pic. So as long as the pics are 800 or less I don't see a problem. BTW, good looking pictures of the riser mod. "We want to be free... Free to ride our machines without being hassled by the man!"

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 3539 02/27/06 7:16 AM	For some reason the images are huge when I pull this post up. Re-sizing my screen resolution does not help as you suggested before. It only made the whole post smaller than my monitor. I still had to rock back and forth to see all of the image. But that is not all bad I guess. The extra close up shows some great detail. Posts: 7575 02/27/06 3:45 PM	Stan.....much, much better photos. Now I can see what you were talking about. I had similar problems using photobucket. I resized some photos in photobucket but after posting them to the forum when I looked at them they were huge on my monitor. But when everyone else looked at them were postage stamp size. The only way I could resolve this sizing problem was to leave the photos in photobucket alone. I download new images and resized them only once. Then I posted them to the forum and they were okay. I could then see what everyone else was seeing. There is some unexplainable switching of photos that goes on with photobucket. What I learned is that once you alter the photo leave it alone, because if you change it, it is going to look one way on your PC and it will look different on the forum. The forum view will be the correct one, but the view on your PC will be different. Sorry if my explanation is confusing, but so is this process. alepel

I have to go for now but will put a quick link up here this evening after work. Apparently I'm not the only one to do this mod. Posts: 7575 02/28/06 4:06 PM	Stan the key to posting good pictures on the forum is the size of the photo. I think that Skip recently posted this information on the forum a short while ago. The most favorable size of photos for the fourm would be around 400 X 500 or 450 X 600 pixels. If your photos that you posted to Photobucket are bigger than than you can resize them clicking on the Edit button and selecting either 75, 50 or 25 percent of the original photo. So if you posted a photo to Photobucket that is say 800 X 1200 you can reduce it to 50% and get it down to 400 X 600 pixels and it would be perfect. If you wanted to know how big your Photobucket photo is before you try resizing it...just right click on the photo and select Properties. It will then give you the number of pixels (ie 455 X 615) you can then determine how much you want to reduce your photo to achieve the 400 X 500 or 500 X 600 dimensions to put the photo on the forum. The thing that screws most people up (me included) is that once you resize a photo on Photobucket if you do it again you are actually reducing an already reduced photo. The best thing to do is start all over again. Upload a new photo to Photobucket, resize it to the acceptable dimensions and then link it onto the Forum. Hope this helps. alepel

But, when I opened the post after submitting it, it returned to the original size again. I may have to upload another photo from MY Pictures file and resize it before I save it in my Photobucket album. I'm going to take a look at their tutorial again and see if this will help on this.
