Have You Removed Your Baffels From Stock Exhaust |
Lead | ||
|
A couple of freinds of mine saw a Tour at a motorcycle ralley with all the baffels cut out and could not brag enough about how good the pipes sounded, but the head pipes had started to blue. Now my buddies have removed all but one baffel thinking their pipes will not blue. I would have to admit they sound pretty good but a little loud. The guys are now trying to talk me into it but Im not convenced bluing wont accure a little latter not to mention a posibility of having to rejet afterwards. Has anyone resurched this or have any info on sound verses how many baffels you remove.

Check out the "Modifications and Customizing" section of this forum. There is a huge illistrated thread about the baffles in the T's muffler.
I have cut the end pipe-reducer off my T and drilled 15-20 holes in the two baffle plates and LOVE the sound. Way better than a Harley, particularly when decelerating. I've put about 1500 interstate miles (75-80mph) on it since the mods. and have no blueing at all. Also, I didn't have to rejet-just installed a free flowing K&N air filter. Later, Bill |

and the front header pipe blued! I may go back to the stock pipes later as I really like the sound of the Cobras but not the loudness!

I took a 3/8" bit and drilled holes in my mufflers six months after I had my T. About six months later I did the full "Buzzy Mod" (you can it find here on the forum) and I have had no bluing nor did I have to rejet. I did have to drill the caps off the covers to the mixture screws on the carbs and tweek them abit. Read about the muffler mods and then decide if you want to take the plunge. If you do you won't be sorry.

Removing the baffles | #4 | ||
|
Hi Texas Ace. I have done the whole intake and exhaust modification. I removed all the baffles from the mufflers and the diverter in the 2 into 1 section of the pipes. You can see this if you remove the right side muffler and look up the pipe toward the engine. I also had the carbs re-jetted and put in a K&N air filter. What I got from this is a lot of zoom and a good amount of roar.Now when I'm out on the highway passing cagers is no problem even 2 up. Good luck and Merry Christmas.
