its a FANTASTIC ride, ride it west to east or east to west, you will love the ride and scenery.
this is the best time (late March to late May) to take this ride. it can get hot in June-August.

go to this site and mark the road on your map, then if you get to Northern California ride it and have FUN.

Neat looking road. Bet it would be a hoot in the Miata as well.

Rod,
I am hoping to be on that road in July. I will be visiting my brother-in-law in Redding. On the way back to SFO I want to take SR 36 and the PCH. It will be with my wife in a rental car, but that's OK. She can drive and I will take pictures and dream about riding the same route on a bike someday.

SR 36 is a great ride. I've done all but the 19 miles closest to Red Bluff in a car and a about 25 miles of it twice on my brother-in-law's Victory
Touring Cruiser. It reminds me of a combination of the Triple Nickel Highway in southern Ohio and U.S. 50 in West Virginia. Parts of it are like a roller
coaster (like SR 555 in OH) with somewhat tighter than big sweeping turns, but sweeping turns never-the-less. Other parts of it have sections with several
dozen tights turns in a row like U.S. 50 when it goes up and over a ridge. Actually SR 36 is so delightful because it is scenic from one end to the other and
because it entails continuous carving. The many series of larger turns give the rider a break, while the numerous sections with tighter turns provide some
excitement. Too bad that road is not closer to my home. I would be riding it every chance I get. My brother-in-law is very lucky to live so close by.

Rod,
Thanks for posting the website pashnit.com. I wasn't aware of this site and boy does it have some valuable information. Fred, Always glad to hear about your adventures from coast to coast whether it be on your T, a Harley in Nevada or a Victory in California. You are truly living a wonderful dream. Looking forward to seeing some of your photos. Cheers, John |
