many, many years ago when i was young and stupid i was riding my yamaha 1100 special from k.c. to denver on I-70 out in the middle of nowhere, ks. these two
guys in a mercedes convertible pulled up beside me and wanted to race. i started cracking the throttle on the yama and at 130(per the speedo reading)the guys
in the mercedes began pounding their fists on the steering wheel...that's all the mercedes had. i still had a little throttle and went on to 140. the
speedo on those bikes went to 160 and i think they would have done it. i bought one a few years ago and was going to restore it, but a fellow saw it that
wanted it worse than i did, so i sold it. those bikes were awesome, and back then, you didn't re-jet, ad pipes, etc. they were just downright fast. when i
stopped that day, i was shaking just thinking if one nut or bolt would have come loose at that speed, i'd still be rolling. nowadays i roll at about half
that speed and i'm scared then. later, bud

Some of you guys are just down right TRAZY (means "Totally crazy"). The fastest that I have ever been on any bike was the 90mph I reached on my new
'73 Honda CB350F. It still had throttle left, but I chickened out. I already knew what it felt like going down at only 30 mph on 2 occasions. I don't
even want to think about going down at 3 times that speed.

Like several others have mentioned, I seem to chicken out at a particular speed too. My magic speed is about 100 mph whether I am riding a bike or driving a
car. The fastest indicated speed I have seen on a bike was 115 mph on Honda's ST1300 sport-tourer that I was demoing. Given Honda's typical speedometer
high-side error I probably was going more in the range of 104-106 mph, but I think there is a big difference when you can get to a high speed in a matter of
seconds, and also back down to a reasonable highway speed in a few seconds too, compared to barely inching up to that high speed over a few minutes as you
would on a much less powerful bike. I feel a whole lot more confident going very fast on a bike that is designed to go fast and can get there quickly on a
short, straight, flat stretch of road rather than taking my chances on a bike that is close to "maxxed-out" for miles on end and finally achieves
whatever the top speed is.

I had a 98 T with 30k miles on her. I regularly did 85 - 90 mph to keep up with my pack. And it had no problem doing over 100. I had it up to 102 - 105 quite
a few times passing. It felt like it could do more and maybe did...... I was afraid to take my eyes off the road and look down going that fast.
Really anything above 85 is squirley.

I suppose something is amiss in the carb(varnish, jetting, sync) or timing(no timing in high gears)---I am not going to mess with it as it runs beautifully and
gets 40mpg. It is my car, truck and transportation as i own no cars and havent for years--evr since my MI--I ride and love all bikes and until the past year
rode performance bikes IE: ZX6R,ZX9R,Ducatis,B12,F2,3 Buells etc-------------there really isnt much to see at 165mph---------And after a hospital stay the past
year i found i had lost a lot of heart function(Ejection fraction for those medically inclined)---I feel i no longer have the focus and reflexs necessary to
perform at that level-----------I love the T---fits you at 40yo and me at 74yo!!!----------65 is fast enuff!!!!-------------the kingfish

kingfish.....sorry to hear about the hospital stay. Been there and done that too. A couple of times. It sounds though like your enjoying your riding at your
own pace. And what more could anyone ask but that! Take er easy though. We'd all like to see you sticking around awhile.

Kingfish,
How long since you replaced the fuel filter?? You might be starving the motor at higher speeds, but it would still run good at lower speeds. I rode a KZ1000 to near 140 MPH. I was street racing a Corvette. I got the jump, but he stayed within 2-4 car lengths up to about 120 when I started pulling away. I ran it up to approx. 140 (sitting upright, no windshield) where it seemed to cap. I'm sure it would have added 10-20 MPH if I had tucked in good. I got a Yamaha 180 Twin moving almost 60 MPH once. I was running downhill with a strong tailwind. If I remember correctly, I even passed a car. Woo-Hoo. Ride safe. Putz |

Mine is modifed K&N, Jet Kit, Vance and Hines, 117mph was mine but I work at a montorcycle shop and have been told by several manufactures reps that the
speedo on motorcycle is off somewhat over 100 he says it can be as high as 10% so my 117 was like maybe 100 but he says all bike vary, my buddie has the same
year and all, the same exhaust and my dyno says mine has 5 HP more then his. lol he was so mad. Just some input

Three different top ends in three different configs.
All jettet for modified exhaust & K&N filter. Running V&H I hit 105+ but was very loud. Running Jardines I hit 96-98, a little quieter but blued the pipe. Running stock I hit 85-90. |
