Honda discontinues spray cleaner & polish |
Lead | ||
|
I stopped by my local Honda Dealer today to pick up a part I had ordered and since my can is almost empty, I asked for a can of their cleaner & polish. The
parts mgr told me that Honda had discontinued it and is discontinuing all aerosol products. This may not be news to you, but it is to me, since the last time I
bought a can the shelves were full. Maybe you have something you like as well, but I don't so this will start me searching..Bottom line: if you like it and
can find it, better buy a couple of cans.. Maybe the parts mgr doesn't know what he is talking about, but maybe he does....Just thought I would pass it
along...Bob <><

If Honda is discontinuing all aerosol products, wonder if they plan to replace them with a non-aerosol product?

If they are replacing it with a non-aerosol, the Parts guy wasn't aware of it. He said he is trying various other products, but so far hasn't found one
as good as the Honda Cleaner and polish. BTW, the same dealership also sells Yamaha, Kawasaki & Suzuki, so they do have their products, but not the Honda.
He also told me that the Yamaha stuff was ok, but not as good...I wondered about the non-aerosol too.....Bob <><

Thanks for the tip. I am going to the local Honda dealer tomorrow and check it out. The Honda cleaner is awesome. Bob

It looks to me that a product this popular would be replaced with something. Maybe Honda has some new type of paint and chrome coming out that nevers get dirty and never needs cleaning. "We want to be free... Free to ride our machines without being hassled by the man!" |

Honda does not make those products themselves. They are made by another company and Honda puts their name on it. If you could find out who manufactured their
products, then you would have your replacements. I was just over at papamte's house last Sunday and he swears by McGuire's spray and shine in the pump
bottle. Personally, for the dirtiest parts I use Suzuki Bike Wash when I wash the bike. It's really good for getting the grungy road grime off your wheels
and under side w/o a lot of scrubbing. Most of the grime just washes off. I use Plexus on the windshield and light lenses.

I've used McGuire's products in the past and have always had very good results. Their products are top quality.

I think I've seen this stuff at the Honda Automotive parts department too. So if you really want to stockpile, you may want to check there too.

Was in another Honda bike store this week, about 50 miles from here. They too were out and confirmed that Honda had discontinued it. I asked if it was to be
available in a non-aerosol, and the owner said he didn't know.. If you like it and can find it, better buy it.. BTW, I agree that McGuires' products
are good, but the Honda stuff is just soooo good..Bob <><

The product I use for cleaning windshields is called PLEXUS. I believe its the best product on the market for this purpose.. I think it was developed for the
aircraft industry for cleaning plexiglass windshields. It's an aeresol can. It's a little hard to find, but last time I bought it at a marine supply
store like West Marine or Boat US
If you look up Plexus
on line, There's plenty of places you can ordered it from.

I use the Plexus on my winsdshield and faceshield too, but, I use the Honda cleaner and polish on the painted and chromed surfaces because it works much
better than plexus. (smells good too) hahaha Bob <><

I just got back from Pasadena Honda and they only have 60+ cans of this stuff left.
So for you Houston/Galveston area guys that love this stuff, go by Pasadena Honda on Spencer Hwy and grab yourself a few cans.

Are we talking about the spray cleaner/wax or the Hondabrite spray cleaner/wash product? The wax you spray on and wipe off and comes in a black labeled can.
The cleaner/wash you spray on and hose off and comes in a yellow and red can. Has anyone tried the Hondabrite wash product? Does it do a good job?

I just learned that Honda's spray cleaner is actually S-100, and is available in a pump spray bottle and with optional refill. Before, this was in an
aerosol can. I noticed this site still offers the cleaner/polish in the can but it is a dealer only item. It looks like the same product is now offered in a
squirt bottle version above called Hondagloss.

Stan, Thanks for the info.. I am headed to the local dealer today to see if they have ordered any..My understanding was that Honda couldn't reach an
agreement with the manufacturer regarding reformulation after the Gov. made them quit producing the cleaner polish..Hopefully this stuff is the same or at
least as good. At least it gives us hope. Will let the forum know what I find out..Thanks again...Bob <> <

Thanks for the update Stan. I purchased the last two spray cans at my local stealer. It is good stuff and I hope the replacement spray works as well. Bob

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the Honda Brite is, according to the container, a spray-on cleaner/degreaser, so it does not replace the
cleaner/polish. They didn't have the Honda gloss, but it is supposedly different too. The parts mgr at our local dealership said that the same company that
made the Honda product, now makes and sells it under their own label. He didn't know what the trade name was, but said he has ordered a couple of cases to
see if it is indeed the same stuff. It should be in next week, so will let the forum know if I find out anymore...Bob <> <

Thanks for checking into this for us. The nearest dealer to me is 35-40 miles away. I really don't care for the aerosol part of it anyway. I usually just
spray it on a rag and wipe. Spraying it directly on the bike gets it all over areas I had rather it not be on like mirrors, nooks, crannies, exhausts, and
tires.

I stopped by my local dealer today, they carry all the Japanese brands. They too were out of the Honda product. I bought a can of what the dealer says is a
similar product by Kawasaki called Wipe Down. It is in a larger can and is a bit cheaper than the Honda product. My T wasn't that dirty, but i tried it on
the gas tank and it seemed to work well. I will post a report about the Kawasaki stuff after i have a chance to evaluate it a little more.

I stopped at the local Honda shop today to pick up a light bulb for my light bar. While there I checked the supply of Honda Spary Cleaner. The shelf was full,
no shortage there. Both large cans and small cans. I picked up another large can for 4 bucks. I now have 2 large and 2 small cans.
