Thanks for remembering, Alain. No, I have not become a gelding yet and it looks like that won't happen in the near future. I was informed a few days ago that my services were no longer required by my employer. No employment, no medical insurance, no V-job.
You do not have to remove the rear tire to change the fuel filter. Pull both side covers and remove the battery to get all the room you need. A fairly large needle-nose pliers was used to back off the hose clamps then work the old filter off the hoses. Reverse that procedure and you're in business. Make sure the filter flow is in the right direction. The fuel flows from the left to the right on my bike. The exit hose off the filter hooks into the fuel pump. The filter should have an arrow on it's housing showing fuel flow direction. Mike |

I'm ready to move to a warm place as long as it has as good motorcycle roads as Ohio. I'm a degreed sales and marketing manager but will sell anything short of snake oil to keep my family fed. Luckily, Kodak treats their terminatees very well and I will be comfortable for almost a year on their serverance program. I just can't sit still for that long.
That being said, I'm looking forward to some time off as I have not been out of a job since I entered the work force 37 years ago at age 16. I want to go down to Ft. Benning at the end of January for my oldest son's Ranger School graduation. He's the first officer in the family representing our 4th consecutive generation serving in the US Army. By the way, I was wrong on the Car Quest fuel filter price. It was $4.00, not $3.50. (Just tying this reply back to the stated "thread".) Merry Christmas! Mike |

Sorry to hear about your loss. If I were in a similar position I think I would be looking towards eastern TN, western NC and Northern GA. Milder temps and great roads. I think GA was the #3 or #4 ranked state for growth in 2005 & 2006. Most of the cities along I-40 in NC are booming too. As for your benefits, I was in a similar boat in the late 80's/early 90's. I used a benefit called COBRA for the first 60 days. With COBRA, my former employer was obligated to allow me to continue my health benefits, however I was required to pay the whole premium amount. I was given a 60 day window to make my decision. At any time within that 60 days I could say "Yes, I want to extend my COBRA health benefits", pay the backdated premiums and I would be covered. If after 60 days I did not need the coverage I did not owe anything. It afforded me the comfort of insurance coverage without the monthly premium. At the time I was a single parent with two crumb munchers that were always going to the doctors, clinics and emergency room... so I took out a 'catastrophic coverage' health plan. It did not cover the routine items, had a high dedutable ($2,000 I think) but had a low premium amount, about 1/4 the typical Blue Cross premium. I paid many medical bills 'out of pocket' but if I or my kids had to go into the hospital the most I would be out-of-pocket would be $2000/yr. Good luck on your search. Andy |

After following this post for a couple days I figured I better change my filter. It was not a major ordeal, but it was not a piece of cake either! Mine had never been changed and it was tough to get the rubber hoses to turn lose of the filter!
 Dawg2 got on one side of the bike and I the other and we finally pulled them off. I priced the filter at the stealer and it was $18 We went to Wal-Mart and bought a Fram for $3. It was a little bigger around and would not fit back into the little rubber band holder. We decided it was not nessasary. The hoses hold the filter just fine. My bike had started to backfire on occassion when slowing. I hope this clears that up! Rick The BIKE is why we came, the PEOPLE is why we stay!
