Of course you all knew that I sold my 88 Honda Shadow VT800C back to the guy I bought if from and that I was actively search for a Tourer. Well last Thursday evening I got a call from a former forum member 44ACE (Jim). Jim and I meet here in Rochester, New York right after he joined the forum and I learned that he was living here in my hometown and owned a Tourer.
When Jim called me he said that he just got back to town from wintering in Florida and had been on the forum and saw where I had sold my Shadow and was looking to find a Tourer. Jim told me that his son who had bought the Tourer from him three years earlier was interested in selling his 1998 Tourer and wondered if I was interested. Well you know the ole saying....does a bear $hit in the woods? Of course I was interested.
So yesterday (Saturday) I went over to look at the Tourer and I was knocked out. What an absolutely gorgeous bike. All black and only 3,850 miles. You read that right. 3,850 miles. The bike was immaculate. The bike had the solo seat configuration, which as many of you know I am extremely fond of. It also has a rider backrest (unknown mfgr) and a mustang rear fender bib. It has an oversized Clearview windshield with windshield pockets. The only accessories on the bike are a throttle lock, and a studded and fringed seat cover. The deal also included the stock windshield, the passenger seat and a studded and fringed cover for the passenger seat to match the drivers seat.
As I said the bike is immaculate. Not a ding, dent, scratch, rust, nothing. The only condition I found on the bike that caused me some concern was some discoloration on the right hand exhaust. Other than that the bike is showroom new.
So I took the bike for a one hour test ride and I was blown away. I could instantly notice the differences between this bike and my ole Shadow 800. It took me a little while to get use to the toe/Heel shifter, but I found myself comfortable just using the toe shifter. For a heavier bike (130 lbs) than my ole Shadow I did not feel the weight. The ride was outstanding. What I really like was the Clearview windshield. I look through the windshield and not over the top, but that was fine. What I really liked was the fact that I could ride with my visor up the whole time. No buffeting and no noise. I realized after my ride I had not worn my earplugs and did not need them.
Well there was no doubt about it. This was going to be my bike. The price was right, the bike was right here in my hometown, and I would have been crazy to not want it.
Check out the pictures and you will have to agree. It is a find. I brought the bike home this afternoon and put about 100 miles on it riding around to get the feel. I must admit, it felt like I had been riding the bike for a very long time and not just one day. What a motorcycle.
Am I happy? You better believe it. Am I proud? Well that too.
As many of you know I've waited for what seemed like four very long years for this moment to happen. I am ecstatic!
I am happy to ask you to look at the photos of my pride and joy.....
