Hello and thanks |

Good morning. Just a quick note to say hello and tell you all thanks for helping me out in getting the ACE Tourer I've been looking for. The information in
this forum was so helpful that I decided to sign up. I pick up my '98 in California next week. I'm really looking forward to it. I just hope it fits in
the back of my truck. Take care.

Welcome to the family, Ben. Looking forward to talking to you. The T will fit in the back of a std short wheel base truck. I've had mine in the back of a
'97 Dodge Dakota and a '99 Silverado. You will have to let the gate down on SWB trucks and the rear tire will rest just forward of the tail gate crease
so there is no pressure on the gate itself. I used 4 clamp type straps (2 in front and 2 in back to hold it down) and had no problems hauling it 1100 miles to
and from Arkansas last year. Take a couple pair of old cotton sports socks with the toes cut out with you, along with some electrical tape to tape them in
place. Just slip the socks over the straps anywhere that it looks like the strap might touch. You may need them to keep the straps from rubbing the paint in
some areas. See my set-up below for my Eureka Springs, AR trip back in '06.

Gee Ben, it would seem to me it would be easier (and more fun) to just ride it home. Get somebody to drive you to the bus station or airport. Welcome to the
board, we're glad to meet you.

Hello Ben.....welcome to the HSTAF forum. I read that you have already benefited from the advice that you can get from this forum. Congratulations on finding
your Tourer even though you've got quite a long drive ahead of you to bring it home.
I hope that you'll take the time and tell us more about yourself and your past riding experiences. Again welcome and I'll look forward to talking with you more in the future. alepel |

I appreciate the welcome. I'll get some pics posted as soon as I can. I thought long and hard about riding the bike back from California, but I haven't
yet tested my hip replacement with that long of a trip...of course I could take two days coming back. I was a little concerned about putting the bike in the
bed of my truck, but I'm a little more at ease right now. I plan to use this bike for a trip with my son that was planned 21 years ago. Back then I was
riding, but riding crazy and really taking chances. I decided to sell the bike and watch my kids grow up. My then 5 year old son was not too happy about me
selling the bike, but I told him when we both grow up, we'll each get a bike and take a little trip. While my son was finishing up his tour in Iraq, it
occured to me that he was probably very grown up and hopefully I was too. I emailed him and we started talking bikes. I purchased a little Honda just before he
came home to see if I was up to riding with my new hip and now it's time for a bike that will make that trip I promised my son. Well, got to run. The
catahoula wants out. Take care.

Thank you. It took me quite a while to find this bike. Picking it up will be a 1600 mile round trip, but I have every confidence that it will be worth it. I
will probably have to search the forum to answer a few questions before I head out into the mountains of Southern New Mexico with my son. Also, I would like to
extend my deepest thanks on this Memorial Day weekend to all of you who have served or have a loved one who is serving or has served our country. Take care.

Wow Ben....what a story! My heart goes out to you and your son starting to ride together. My son and I just started this too. In fact today was our first long
ride together and it was a wonderful feeling. It's going to be a long time before the grin comes off of my sons face. He is happier than a pig in poop and
that goes for me too.
You and your son will have a great time, afterall it sounds like it was a long time coming for both of you. As a dear friend of mine once use to say....ride with the Spirit always and in all ways. Please remember that we are all interested in your return trip home with the new bike. So keep us posted on how that trip goes and your new experiences with riding. alepel |

Alepel, it sounds like you had a really good time riding with your son. That's great to hear. I hope my son doesn't think I'm being silly, but I
intend to take as many photos of the trip as possible. If everything goes as planned I should be returning with the bike on Thursday. Funny thing, a friend I
haven't seen in quite a while calls me just to see what's up. I tell him about the new bike and how I'm going to put it in the back of my truck.
Two hours later, he shows up at the house with his bike trailer. Says he would feel better if I took his trailer to pick up the bike. It was a nice surprise.
I'll be bringing her home in style. Take care and ride safe.

Hi Ben. Welcome to THE forum.
Sounds like you have a great son. Please pass along our thanks for his service to us all. I hope your hip will hold up to some riding. You may want to consider putting on some floorboards if it doesn't already have them. They add tremendously to riding comfort. It's nice to be able to shift your feet around some while you ride. Keep us posted on your trip. It sounds like you have it pretty well laid out already. We'll be looking forward to some pictures. Ride safe. Putz |

I apologize for any confusion. I am not familiar with the ins and outs of the forum and I accidentally deleted a response to Putz. I remember that I stated the
bike doesn't have floorboards and asked which brand works best on the Tourer. Putz, I already passed along your thanks and my son was very appreciative.
Thanks for the patience and take care.
Ben

I'm with you on that Alepel. You can't go back and take the pictures later. Besides, it takes me a bunch of photos to get a couple that are any good. I
will say though, that with digital cameras, it has been easier to take better photos. I will take a bunch and then figure out how to post them. It's always
good to learn new things. Take care and have a great Monday.
