Hey Alepel, no luck trying to figure out what I'm doing or when, we're playing everything by ear... or weather. So chances are good I could meet with
everyone.
I could invite myself to your breakfast plans or meet ya'll at the vendors or dinner any night but Tuesday(cruise night). I could drag my Aunt and Uncle along or come alone (they have a Gold Wing so... ya know, not a T but they are great people!) Let me know where you'll be and when and I'll try my best to get there. Quick directions would be helpful, though my Uncle knows every square inch of the area. We'll be in Glenn Falls, south of Lake George on rt 149. Can you email me your cell #? wistful@adelphia.net and I'll send mine to you and anyone else going to Americade. Thanks, hope to meet everyone, Wist

Fred, I haven't forgotten you, I was trying to come up w/ my favorite roads and well, I like them all!!! Do you want me to try to copy a map or just give
you route # and towns?
While I'm here, I have to say that one of the most underrated roads around is Route 112 WEST of Lincoln. Every one knows the Kangamangus highway, route 112 from Lincoln east to Conway. The rough side of this little jewel is just as lovely, air conditioned by a river that never warms and no tourists!! And 132 Ashland south to Tilton onto 140 running east to Alton, 11 North to the Winona (local favorite) road back into Ashland. Oh and route 118 off of 112 in Benton (don't look, Benton doesn't rate space on a map) to Canaan... They're small loops but if you put enough of them together you can be gone ALL day. I'll put some time into this when I get back from Americade. Wist

Wist,
Thanks for the route tips. Andy/Clerider and I were planning to ride the Kancamagus Highway last year as part of our Americade experience. Unfortunately we did not make it that far east, but if we had I'm pretty sure we would have ridden on the less known portion of SR 112 through Swiftwater and Benton. Is SR 116 by Benton also a fun road, or is it just SR 118 that is a good one? I certainly would not have found that route from Ashland thru Tilton, Alton and Winona, then back to Ashland on my own. It really is nice to get an insider's tip.
Happy riding to and from Americade!

Al, Mark;
Not sure if you're online any longer. You might be near LG and riding. I'll watch the board to see if anything pans out. Currently my plans are to leave Cleveland Thursday morning, get to Watertown Thurs pm; ride NY3 to NY9 and head south to Lake George on Friday; hopefully catch up with few riders for Friday dinner; Fri night head south to Albany; then ride US20 home on Saturday. It looks like the weather is being somewhat co-operative. If I don't hear from anybody by late Wednesday I'm going to scrap my plans and just ride around locally. Andy Updated Wed Night.... Mark, Sorry to hear about your back. Hope you can salvage a little of the season this fall. Al, I didn't get my butt in gear soon enough for this trek. Hope to catch up with you at the 5th annual T rally in Marion. Andy

Mark,
I am so sorry to hear about your pulled disk. I hope you heal completely as soon as possible. Are you still going on your interview on the 25th?

Hi Fred,
Thanks for your thought, it's really painful, but it hurts more not to ride. I already made the interview in Charlotte on May 25th, time will tell. NYMark99 |

WOO-HOO!!!!!!! Sounds great, Allain! Glad you had a great time! I knew you were gonna love the "T"!!
As for the shield........ the stock one has the same problem. It helps to use RainX, but check a small area down low first. Some shields it doesn't hurt but I have seen a few that it made very cloudy!!!!!!!! I guess it is the type of coating on the plexi-glass. I usually wax my shield with "The Wax Shop" brand "Safe Cut" This removes the spider webbing and also causes the water to run off a little better. Congrats on your first great ride on the "T"!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice Rick....my problem isn't with the water adhering to the plexiglass. The problem I have is that the Clearview windshield I have is the
2 - 3 inch oversized one. So that I have to look through the windshield and not over the top of it like the stock windshield does. I love the fact that I
don't get any buffeting with the Clearview and I may with the stock but the rain issue is too dangerous for me to not want to go back to the stock.
It's either that or I never ride in the rain. And that is not likely to happen.

I promise you that you don't want to look over the top in the rain! It is better if you can get the water to disperse as much as possible. Goodluck!

Alain,
What is considered by most to be the ideal height for a windshield is 3" to 4" below eye level. Then the top of the windshield is about level with one's lips or chin. At that level the rider can see over the top of the windshield from about 30 to 50 feet in front of the motorcycle to the horizon, yet in most instances the air stream, which you can follow with your hand from the windshield back to your helmet, will still go over your helmet without buffeting. In those instances where the air stream causes buffeting with the windshield height set 3" to 4" lower than eye level it is usually caused by air coming from under the windshield and meeting up with the air going over the windshield. It can produce an extremely annoying booming sound when the two air streams meet. Lowers will eliminate that meet-up. I also find that having my face mask flipped up further deflects the air upwards without producing buffeting. This is the way I ride most of the time and I notice when I put the faceshield down there is more noise and some buffeting. Another strategy is to put set the windshield height just 1" to 2" below eye level. At that height you can slouch a little, look through the windshield and experience no buffeting at all, or you can sit up straight and tall, and look over the windshield especially when there are water droplets from rain or mist, or on those cool mornings when the windshield fogs over. Don't forget you can cut down a windshield to whatever height you want, relatively easily. There are several posts describing how in the Shields section. Before you cut down your windshield get up to highway speed, put your left hand just under the top edge of the windshield and slowly move your hand back towards your helmet feeling where the air is still and where it is rough and flowing fast. Find out how high above your helmet the fast flowing air stream is above your helmet. You probably do not want to cut down your windshield any more than that amount between that fast flowing air stream and the top of your helmet.

Al,
A little off topic, but none the less. One thing I learned about cutting a windshield... becareful where you put the edge. I cut mine to about 2" below my sight line and created a new problem. The windshield will flex with the wind and when riding with my tri-focals, the edge of the shield kept shifting in and out of focus within the reading portion of my glasses. I found I was focusing on the shield edge rather than the road. My advise, keep the shield either high or very low. Andy |

While I was at Americade 2007 I saw that my picture was taken by the 'boys' at RoadPics. It finally got posted today and its the first picture I've
seen of myself riding.
If ya'll are interested here is the link to RoadPics and my photo. If the link doesn't work for you and you still want to see my photo go to: www.roadpics.com. then look for Americade 2007 - Thursday, June 17th, 3PM - 4PM go to page 12 and I am in the 1st picture on the page. If you want to see something really bizarre, besides me on my T, go from my picture and click back about two more photos before mine. I don't know who that is or where he came from. Talk about a small world. alepel |
