No, I am not interested in how fast your bike goes, well maybe a little. I think I had mine at 100 once? Actually I am wondering at what top speed you can
comfortably cruise on your T? I am doing more and more freeway riding, which I hate, with guys on Wings. They like to cruise at 85 mph and I just can't
hold mine steady at that speed for a long period of time. In my mind, 75 is the absolute top speed that I feel comfortable with for long periods of time.
Without a "tach" it is difficult to know what redline is but anything over 75 mph creates an additional engine vibration that I don't like.
Thoughts?

CWR, You are pretty close to dead on as far as I am concerned. 75 is about where my "T' starts to drop off in comfort, vibrations, and stability. My
prefered speed is 70 on the slab and 60 on the 2 lanes.

Thanks for the prompt response. The T is a great bike at the speeds you mentioned and everything in between. I really don't like to travel at speeds
greater than 70 anyway but an upcoming trip to Sturgis is going to force me to run long distances at speeds greater than 70 mph.

I like 50 on two on lanes, enjoying the views and smelling the flowers. Let the wings stick to the slab, take the roads less traveled. They are missing the
whole point in riding a motorcycle for pleasure in my mind.

Now an occasional short burst up to 100 mph ± 2 mph is just fine in my book.

Elvira's favorite speed is 65. 70 or 75 is ok, but not comfortable.
I have ridden one 295 mile jaunt with a couple of Valkyrie's at 85 plus. She didn't like it! Nor did I!! Felt like I had ridden 600 miles!!! Burned three tanks of gas. My absolute favorite is 55 to 60 on a back road..............."sniffin'". The Dragon Trike is a different story. 85 MPH on the highway is just a small throttle twist. 100+ is just a short jump from there. But. It is still not what I like to do. Especially with my co-pilot setting on the back wacking me up-side the head!! So. Iffin you're gonna ride with them Wings and such, (and keep up), you're gonna have to get more motor!! -Dan |

If the Tourer is most comfortable riding along at 65 mph or less then I know I just purchased the right bike for me. And if she likes to go slower, then so
much the better. I agree with Dan....I like sniffing speed.

Allain, The "T" is absolutely perfect cruising at 55 to 65! It is also an absolute joy to ride at 55 to 65!!

I absolutely agree on the 55-65.. I will ride 70-75 if I hit the slab, but prefer the back roads and sniffin speed. Just finished 818 miles in 5 days in the
smokies, including a 208 mile day on the BRP..Speeds of 60 are rare on these roads and the "T" was right at home.. These are great bikes !!!....Bob

my t loves 55 mph on 2 lanes and i run 65 on the interstates. i just get in the right lane and let everyone blow by me. at speeds above 75, my teeth chatter to
much. not to mention the gas mileage drop.

My "T" is Happiest and most comfortable at 60 or so but rarely ride the super slab. 2 lanes and back roads the only way to go. Interstates are for
cars and people that are in a hurry to get somewhere, it's the trip...not the destination. My GoldWing also loves, and stays on 2 lanes and mountain roads
most of the time but it is happy at any speed. Two great bikes, how lucky am I?

Well with a weeks worth of riding and 1,000 miles under my belt, I now know exactly how my Tourer handles in the mountains. It likes to travel 55 mph never
more. My brother on the other hand runs like a banshee. I would watch his speed creep up from 55 to 60 to 65 to 70 and he'd be sucking me up into his
speed. I'd see what was going on and I would back off. I could tell when I was going too fast without looking at the speedometer, because I noticed that I
couldn't take my eyes off the road to appreciate the scenery. That's when I knew I was travelling too fast.
I am beginnning to believe that my brother is not going to continue to be a riding companion if he can't slow down and enjoy the trip. Perhaps when my son gets up to speed things will be better. alepel |

My 2000 T runs just fine at 75, over that it sucks gas like crazy. I've been up to 90 on a calm day with no problems other that the Revs seem to be
really up there. I wish is had a Tach.

I have not ever heard of a taller gear for the T. It does not seem likely that one would be available as there would not be much a market for a bike that was discontinued.

well, mine's an aero, but about the same and i think of the song "i can't drive 55" BUT, wish i could!. 55-60 just seems like i'm
coasting and the traffic around here in k.c. would absolutely run over you at 55. when i ride with my brother, he rides 55-60 and it drives me crazy. when i
ride with rudy, he rides 70-85. 70 i can handle, but 80-85 seems to really put the wind in my face. i do like to hit 80-85 every once in a while, but prefer
around 70. problem with speed on a motorcycle, things can come at you pretty fast. my personal experience with that is the fact i have hit two objects in the
road at the speeds i travel and they probably could have been avoided at 55-60. i say just ride at what you're comfortable with....and ride safe! bud

alain, they must make a lot of neat aftermarket "stuff" for harleys. when we were in arkansas last, talked to a fellow who just bought his wife a
harley deluxe. she wasn't sure she could handle it at stop lights and taking off, so the dealer installed some sort of device that acted like an automatic
transmission when stopped. that is, she could come to a stop in any gear and not clutch. then, it would idle and take off like an auto, but when you hit a
certain rpm, you could manually shift. sort of like a centrifical clutch, except you still shift too. know you're into old cars, remember the early
50's chysler products had a tranny like this. maybe the guy you're speaking of put a newer harley 6 speed in his, but seems i also remember seeing an
ad for overdrive (six speed) trannys in a bike magazine. the device i was speaking of is also available for metrics or so the guy told me.
also, don't feel embarrased about not being for sure if you're in 5th. i do that a lot. in fact, came back almost all the way from lillians(20 miles)in fouth once. my pipes are very loud, and was only riding about 65-70 and when i let up to make an exit is when i noticed it had a lot of back pressure and i was still in 4th. later, bud |

ain't that the truth. i wish i could start out in second some times just so i didn't have change gears at 8 mph. i guess they did that beacuse the t
was designed to be driven with two up loaded down hince the low gearing. thats the only thing i don't like and that harley has got on us. the 6th gear and
can run down the superslab at 85mph at a decent rpm. just wait, i bet in 09 the goldwing will have a 6th gear. that would be an anniversary model wouldn't
it?
