What a story ! Just got back from a 10 000 mile tour of the U.S.A. and loved every inch of it. The real story is how I left Montreal on a 1983 Kawasaki GPz550
and came home on a 2000 Shadow Ace Tourer. My beloved "Ugly Betty" broke down right in front of Lafayette Honda in Louisiana, five minutes before
closing. The owner, Mike Roberts, worked on my Kawa for two hours after closing and confirmed that I would not make it to California. He put us up for the
night and in the morning, hooked me up with the 2000 Tourer (4000 miles on the clock) for 1/4 of the price. He said my trip was important to him and to not
worry about the price. The temp tags are good for 60 days and I put 8000 trouble free miles on "BlackBetty" before getting home. She even did Sturgis
to London, Ontario non stop, which is 1400 miles straight. No sleep. All she asked for was unleaded gas every 150 miles...She saw the Grand Canyon, The Million
Dollar Highway, All of Utah, Vegas, California, Yellowstone, The Beartooth Pass and Sturgis. She's jet black and rides like a dream. I've owned many
Hondas. CX500, V45, V65, VFR800, Aero 750, VT1100 Spirit and now an Ace Tourer. Looking forward to reading what's here...

We camped in Mississippi the day before my bike broke down in Louisiana. A KOA near Meridian, I think. 345 miles later it was toast. But then I met a man with
true biker spirit and now own a "T"...

Congratulations all around! On your 10,000 mile sight-seeing trip, on meeting a true biker and getting a new black beauty, and on besting your single ride
distance going 1400 miles in 26.5 hours. All great stuff! Welcome to the Forum.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Welcome to the forum from upstate New York. After reading of your recent exploits I had to go and sit down. I think that I was feeling a little fatigued.
Oh to be young again.....well maybe just younger! Again welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to hearing more detailes on the specific portions of your trip. alepel |

Howdy from western Washington. Quite a story. I don't know that I could have started out on such an abitious trip on a small, 24 year old bike. I'm
sure you maintained it well, but age just catches up with all of us. I'm sure my body would have broken down before Lafayete! Glad to hear that everything
turned out well. You meet the nicest people on a Honda or in your case owning a Honda shop.

Welcome! That is a great story! Mike Roberts sounds like a kind of business owner that is getting rare in these days of corporate greed. I'm looking
forward to seeing your pictures, it sounds like quite the trip! Steve

That is a great story. I've been to Lafayett, but not on a motorcycle. They have a really great Cajun Fest that I would love to attend. Maybe I'll go
there on the T. Driving across Texas is the only thing that daunts me. Although, there's a restaurant in Lafayette that would make the trip
worthwhile...hmmm. Anyway, welcome to the forum from Far West Texas.

Thanks to all. I had better service at that dealership then I get here in Montreal. My Honda dealer is great but a couple of the multi brand places have left
me cold. I've ridden Texas top to bottom and side to side. Went into Mexico on both trips. The only thing that's been a little tough has been the heat.
And to Alepel, Upstate NY sounds like you're just around the corner from Montreal. We should get a ride going...

we've toured some of the interior of the Adirondack park by motorcycle. Now I would like to ride the perimeter. Perhaps we could hook up in Lake Placid.

Alain - Are you sure you are ready to keep up with a 10,000 mile rider? I know I'm not!
BB - You've done what most of us dreamed of doing in our youth and are probably incapable of doing in our not-so-youthful second youth (but that won't stop us from trying). Scott "Silence is golden, duct tape is silver" |

gr8scott51 wrote: Scott.....I know what you are saying. There are those riders out there who could follow the sunset around the world and probably do it in a weeks time. That's certainly not me. But I follow the pack at my own pace and if I'm the last man, so be it. I like being the last man in the group. I don't have to make any excuses for myself and the others know exactly why I back there and they are all appreciative of it. This year at Americade I criticized my brother for traveling at blistering paces when we were just taking recreational rides. I saw so much scenery just zip past me and I would have loved to stop and taken in the sights and snapped a few more photos. I guess the real secret to my style of riding is to ride by myself. Then I don't have to account for the number of times I want to stop and see something or the speed with which I want to travel to be able to take it all in. My guess is that I would probably be a nuisance as a riding companion. But Oh the pictures I would have to share would be incredible! alepel |

Alain, did you say "pictures"? Hey, I'm with you when it comes to riding. I like to enjoy the journey. I have buddies that really zip on a ride,
but I know the destination so if I'm the last one there, so what? One time, I was the first one at the restaurant. Seems the rest of the pack were busy
signing speeding tickets. As far as being able to ride all day...I have no problem with that. It's getting off of the bike that hurts.

I've been bringing groups of newish riders to Rolling Thunder for ten years and have never had a problem. As for groups, it should only keep pace with
it's most sedate rider. My secret if I haven't been asked to lead, is to roll last. That way I'm not pushing anyone and may even be able to help
out with some tips if they're open minded. If not, I just keep my comments to myself and enjoy riding safety at the back. Lake Placid would be great, I do
30 from Malone to the end then turn around and come home. I'm up for anything. I just need enough notice because of the four kids....Talk soon.

Hey Scott, what's with the doule re-post and no reply ?????? Where in NH ? I've done it all. We used to do Hampton Beach for a swim and come back the
same day. We'd leave at 4 am, get there around 10, swim till 6 and get home around midnight. Those were good times. For years we did Laconia for the day
and came home that night.
