speedometer quit |

|
My speedometer and odometer quit working yesterday. I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but I was hoping someone might have an idea whats wrong. I
didn't check fuses. but I would'nt think thats the problem. I would think that the speedometer is operated by a mechanical cable and that some where
between the front wheel and the speedometer is the problem. HELP !!!!

Most likely it's the cable. Undo the cable from the wheel end and pull it out. If both ends are not pressed square, then the cable snapped and you will
need to pull out the remaining end at the speedometer. The internal cable should be the only part needed, and is usually fairly inexpensive. If it turns out to
actually be the speedometer, then there is one on ebay here;

My Buddies quit 2 weeks ago on his Spirit! It was the cable. Someone had snagged it with something while sitting in the shop. It kinked and broke shortly after
we started our ride to the Smokeys. I had an extra GPS with me so we strapped it on his bike for the rest of the trip. He had to replace the entire cable
assembly......Complete Cable
If your lucky you will only need to replace the inner cable......... Inner Cable which is cheaper. Unscrew the cable from the Speedo head and if you pull the inner cable and only a piece of it comes out, you probably will only need an inner cable. Here is a breakdown of the entire assembly.... Entire Assembly Goodluck Rick

If you take the windshield off it's easier to change the cable.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I still havent had a chance to check it out yet. Question, is it easier to swap the entire assembly rather than just the
inner cable ? Is there anything odd I need to know before I tackle this project myself. It sounds pretty straight forward, but you never know.

No need to remove the windshield. There is only one phillips head screw that attaches the cable to the front hub. Remove that screw, pull the cable boss out,
and then the inner cable can be pulled from there. You only need to disconnect the upper cable from the speedo if your old cable is broken and has left pieces
lodged inside the cable housing.
