HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 981 06/20/07 9:00 PM	Tags : None I think the stator gave up the ghost yesterday I am charging the battery and will check it out tomorrow. I replaced the 3 year old battery 2 days ago thinking it was the problem...NOPE 32,000 miles Has anyone checked into having their stator custom wound for more output ? Wonder if it's possible? Am I correct that the regulator only controls the flow of the electricity not total output ? There has to be a way to improve the T's charging system. I will be adding a trailer to the load soon so any improvement will be good. When we were kids we use to rewind our slot car motors for more speed, could it be that simple? HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 232 06/21/07 12:45 PM Road Captain	Hey there,I have talked to one small motorcycle shop and he said that he could rewind it with longer and thicker wire and I talked to another small motorcycle shop and he said he could get higher output for the problem were having with our bikes and the old goldwings.I talked to alot of people and alot of generator shops and I've done lots of research on line just to get these two leads.I haven't tried a rewind yet because mine is still producing - just border for my road lamps and stereo.So who know for sure if these will work-I just figured when mine went I'd give it a try.Its out there ya just got to find it.If you do and it works let us all know-thats the only really flaw to this bike that I know of but to me thats a big one and mine sit plugged in every night.Good look

Our stators are located in a very unforgiving environment, with minimal clearances, high temperatures and major vibrations. The number of turns is critical to voltage output, larger wire with same number of turns means it all is bigger and since you don't know what kind of equipment he is using you won't know if it will fit. One solution for those with electronics is to power those of batteries. Not a great solution but keeps the load down some. Replace it with the Electrex from BikeBandit and just keep on with knees in the breeze. These bikes are not designed for much electrical and there is no real good way to retro them. I know for the GW1500 they make a bunch of different stators, but I do not know if any will fit. The regulator just makes it dc and keeps it around 13v or so. If the regulator is bad it can put out an incorrect voltage, say 10v or something. So, it theoretically could be the regulator, butttttttttt, based upon this forum, you need to change out the stator!

Posts: 12 07/09/07 2:55 PM	I have had my bike 2 years and just put in my 2nd stator. I think the 1st one was an electrex. This time I sent one to a guy in Al to have it rewound. He claims it will be really good, as he uses really good wire and stuff. But I believe he told me there is no way to beef it up. He works very reasonable and fairly quick turnaround, so thought I would try his. I really wasn't running extra electric stuff, so don't know why they went bad, unless battery was bad, I guess that can cause it. I am pulling a trailer now, but I put LED's on trailer and in taillight of bike, so am using less electric than stock, so hoping it will last better now. Randy

HSATF 1st Officer Posts: 981 07/09/07 6:00 PM	As it turns out I have not replaced the stator or regulator, The plug under the seat was toasted real good but the stator checked out to be good. I replaced the battery and cut out the bad factory plug and put in new insulated spade connectors, so far I have had no problems. I too will be pulling a trailer I just got. I have been looking for led's to replace the trailer lights. What bulb did you use in the bikes tail light? Have you found LED's for the turn signals? Posts: 12 07/09/07 7:01 PM	I put led trailer lights (the whole thing) on and they look really good. For the bike, I just put 2 1157 led's in for now, not sure how they are yet. I guess all right, but I haven't been behind bike to see em. Thought about getting one of those that flashes and spins and all that, but was in a hurry, as we are going on a trip wed. I didn't get led's for turn signals, because you have to either add a load (which would defeat my purpose) or I think you can get a special flasher , but not sure if it works on the T. My shocks are set on 3, do I need to adjust them with 2 riders and trailer? Randy

I'm still trying to figure out how to get the #!%@$ trailer lights to work on my Wing. Posts: 2282 07/11/07 11:50 AM	Be careful with thinking about the effect a trailer will have on your suspension. Even if the loaded trailer weighs 300 pounds your tongue weight will only be about 30-35 pounds. That is all the extra weight you will be adding to your suspension. Two people and a trailer...yup probably a setting of five. One person and a trailer....probably not, unless you like a stiff suspension. All that being said....adding a 300 pound rolling trailer behind you does not decrease performance that much because you are not "carrying" it. What will decrease big time is your stopping capacity. Break plenty in advance as you will have a lot of weight pushing you from behind. Also, practice in the curves as again you will not be carrying a lot of extra weight but a whole lot of weight will be "pushing" you through the turns when you let up on the gas. Don't get me wrong, trailering is not necessarily dangerous...just different. Bob

HSATF Tail Gunner Posts: 140 07/13/07 6:17 PM	Something else to consider if the addittional wear on the clutch and the tranny. While it is true the bike is not 'carrying' the 300#, it is pulling that 300# and that will cause more wear on the clutch and tranny. Also, really really take the brakes comment to heart. The T brakes ain't all that great to begin with (compared to other mcs). Have fun and if you get near Dahlonega GA give me a holler.

I guesstimate they had about 5,000 more miles before they would hit the metal. You meet the nicest people on a Honda (forum).

Here we are 2 months after I started this thread and my stator wires have fried again I just ordered a stator & regulator/rectifier , gaskets & shift shaft seal from ServiceHonda.com The bike was running and charging fine till today. I did nothing out of the ordinary so why all of a sudden melted wires again ? Seems to still be charging 12.53v at idle and 13.64 at around 3000 rpm with brights on, running lights & extra tail lamps. Still waiting on the new stator & regulator.
