Locating Purolator Pure One PL14610

I've begun planning my next oil change. I just did it, so that's when I put acquisition of the oil and filter for the next change on my to do list.

After the readings I've done, I'm wanting to try the Purolator Pure One PL14610. The problem is that I'm having a very hard time finding a place to buy it. After several hours, and after finding an automotive application that uses that filter (2000 Mazda Millenia), I was finally able to get one online retailer to list the part for me (Advanced Auto). However, they are pricing it around $13, plus shipping - more than double the $6 price usually quoted.

Thus, I am left wondering, where is it available for $6? Anyone here know?

Marpesia, I have purchased Purolator's PL14610 oil filters at an Advanced Auto Parts store in Noblesville, Indiana for around $6 in the past. I believe they are also sold at Meijer's superstores (supermarket and discount store) in Indiana as well. I have not looked for them online.

Lately I have been using the SuperTech filters that sell for $2 at WalMart. They are rated for 98% first pass efficiency and 99% for multiple pass efficiency, which is very high for any disposable filter. It will also last longer than any paper filter, including the highly rated PL14610, since it is made of woven synthetic fibers. I would recommend either the PL14610 or SuperTech filters.

I've found Purolator P1 filters at poop boys (PepBoys) in the past. I've also been able to pick up Purolator m/c filters there too. However, lately they've been chaning up their inventory and stock so much, I'm not sure what they have anymore.

There is no brick and mortar Advanced Auto Parts, Wal Mart, or Pep Boys within the city and county of San Francisco. None of them. I checked all three online, and only Advance Auto Parts online showed this filter. Pep Boys online did not have it, but I suppose that doesn't mean their brick and mortar down the Peninsula doesn't.

We do have, however, brick and mortar Kragen's, which, when run online, turns out to be the same as Partsamerica. More still, when you look at the setup of the site, part numbering system, and part descriptions, it is all identical, and I mean IDENTICAL, to the Advanced Auto Parts website. Apparently, Advanced Auto Parts in the East and MidWest is the same company as Kragen's and Partsamerica in the West.

Again the Purolator is a $13 item. I will probably walk or ride over to the Kragen's around the corner and see if they carry it on the shelf and, if so, if it is a mere $6 for the effort of leaving the house to obtain it.

If I want to go to Pep Boys, I have to ride a little South down the peninsula. If I want to go to Wal Mart, I have to either ride South all the way to San Jose almost, or I have to cross the Bay Bridge into the East Bay. Neither of those options is my favorite - and Wal Mart happens to be politically on the outs here in SF for it's apparent chronic maltreatment of its employees. :nonono

I'm not expecting a Wal Mart to be built inside The City in the foreseeable future. :doh

Besides, my next oil change will be due before they could get it built even if they broke ground this morning.

Even though I'm not at all averse to the SuperTech, I haven't even tried looking for that one. I figure that, either way is probably an upgrade from the Hi-Flo filters one of my motorcycle shops has been selling me for the past few oil changes.

When I googled PL14610 the first thing that came up was an oil filter study mymiata.paladinmicro.com/MiataOFilters.htm

The last filter in this study was from Advance Auto, filter # AA7317 and looks to be a deal at $2.48 If it's not to long to fit under the T it may be a good alternative. Advance's web site gives no size specs so I think I'll buy one and see.

OK, upon the advice of so many I went to the local Advance Auto Parts and acquired a PL14610 for a price of 5.88 They had lots of them as well as the 'regular' 14610 that sold for 3.88 or so. Anyway, it is installed and I hope working properly. Not sure if I like the blue color, but then again you can't see it unless the rubber side ain't down. So, if I can see it , well there are other problems.

if you want a "big" filter that fits the "T" take a look at Baldwin filters p/n 1431, 4" long and it fits just fine. Baldwin filters is what i use on my truck(it takes 3 filters + 11 gal. of oil), cars and bike.

Sorry to say, I haven't yet been able to afford the new seat. Ouch. Ouch. Ouch. I ride way too much to have that ass-torturing stock seat. I've kinda settled in favor of the Russel Daylong, and am dreading the long ride to Redding to have it installed. Not dreading it too much, though, as I'm still too poor to foresee that order.

I searched and found a Baldwin dealer, but when I ran the part number 1431, it came up as invalid. Can you provide a link for this?
