Hopnel windshield pouchesThe Fix for Hang Down!

I have the Hopnel Windshield pouches. They started to hang down as soon as I put them on my motorcycle.
To say the least, I did not like the way that made them look.

Something had to be done!

I went to the hardware store and got some L brackets. The kind you mend window frames or furniture with.

I got a set of 4-inch and 5-inch brackets (two each).

You will notice a windshield bolt just under the pouch next to the outside bottom edge of the pouch.
They are the outside bolts that hold the windshield to the windshield mounts. You can see these bolts from the front of the windshield. They are the top two bolts.

What you do is take the bracket (if you use the 4-inch you will not have to modify the bracket)
And attach it to the bolt that holds on the windshield.
The bracket goes between the pouch and the leather strip that it attaches to. You cannot see the bracket.
The pouch hides it.

The bracket pushes the backing strip against the windshield and stops it from pulling away.

The 4-inch bracket is not as strong as the 5-inch bracket so if you pull too hard on the pouch you can bend the bracket.

Now, if you use the 5-inch bracket it is a lot stronger than the 4-inch bracket (what I finally did) but you will have to modify it. You will have to cut both ends off at the outside holes. Use a file to smooth up the rough edges so your leather wont be cut up. You should also paint the cut edges to prevent rust. I painted mine with silver touch up paint.

Now take the bracket and push it up between the pouch and the backing strip. Push it as far as it will go. It should be against the seam where the pouch is sewn to the backing strip. Position the bracelet so it is next to the windshield bolt. Mark the bracket where the bolt is. You are doing this so you will have the exact spot where you will drill the mounting hole.

Remove the bracket and drill the hole where you just marked.
I cannot remember the size of the drill bit you have to use.
So just remove the windshield bolt and use it to compare with the drill bits to get the correct size.

You should de-bur the bracket hole on both sides. It keeps the bracket from scratching the chrome windshield mount and makes for a professional job.

If you did the job correctly the bracket should fit snug against the seam where the pouch is sewn on and just fit over the windshield bolt.
Now all you have to do is tighten the windshield bolt up on the L bracket and youre done.

The bracket will now hold the pouch next to the windshield and stop the dreaded Pouch Droop!

Alas, another catastrophe adverted!!!!
