If I go with the satin black the flames will be the style of the ones in the other pics though , not the really busy ones like this pic has .

Shannon,
To me the flames on the wine colored bits looks pretty good. The yellow on the red does not look bad either, although it is second to the wine components, but like Skip, of the ones you have presented so far I like the red semi-ghost flames on the black tank the best. I know you are looking for retro and that is not retro but I like it none-the-less. Because of my propensity for blue, if I wanted retro I probably would pick the yellow-orange-red flames on the almost royal blue background that is shown in http://hondashadowacetourer.yuku.com/topic/7555 . Just my

Shadow Sabre's came with old school flames in '07 and (I think) '05. These are decals, but a guy I work with has a Sabre and people are always coming up and asking him who did his flames. You could save a ton of money by having your tins painted black, buying the decal kit at the dealer and have your painter install them.

Thanks for all of the input guys . I really like the wine color alot , but the blue is running a close second . And I might still decide to go with high gloss
black , or red , maybe yellow . I am really lost in all of the great looking choices for a base color . One thing I have learned in all of this is that I
really like the basic flames like the ones in the pic of the wine colored Harley tins . Alot of the ones I have seen were far too busy , or just not very nice
at all .
There is one thing that is for certain , the flames will be painted on . I am sure there are lots of great looking decal sets available , but if I am going to spend the money to get the bike painted I want paint . I have shopped a few reputable places locally and looked at portfolios of several artists and gotten quotes from a few . The best so far is really not very expensive , and their painter is really talented . I doubt going with decals would save much if any money anyway . One of the best shops in the area that I have talked to is going to do the entire bike for $900 , including the artwork . I have talked to a few other places that wanted well over $1000 just to paint the bike another color . I did consider at first going with the decal set idea , but for that kind of money there is no advantage to it . If you spend the kind of money it takes to get the bike painted a different color you might as well spend a little more and get it just the way you want it to be . But that is just my feelings on it . Some people like the decals better because if you get bored with it you can change them to something else easily . I don't plan to change anything on this once it is done the way I want it . Bag Rails Needed!!!!!!!!!!! |

I really like the wine color in the top photo the best. It's a nice contrast of colors w/o clashing with each other. Being a Crimson Tide fan, I could
never bring myself to orange and blue on anything. It just seems so unnatural to me. LOL

I know that you are looking at colors and I really don't have any comment about the color you choose. What I really do like are the flames in top photo
that cross over each other. Any reasonably good painter can get flames on but a painter who can do cross-over flames is really good and it shows in the
finished work.
Just my two cents worth. alepel |

I really like that particular flame layout also , and have already decided that this is the type flames I will be getting on my T . I really like the way they
intertwine as well as the basic layout , clean and uncluttered . If you look around at flame jobs alot of the flames you see seem to be really fat and not at
all streamlined like these are . Alot of people like them that way , but I really like the thinner more streamlined flames that allow you more of the base
color to be seen . It really is kinda funny , before I started "researching" for this project I knew alot less about the makings of a quality paint
job and what makes for a really nice custom job . I have always seen flames , some I liked and some I didn't , but now I know more of the makings of the
particular style I prefer . I am really lucky to have met the painter I am working with , alot of other painters will just throw something on the bike and
expect you to be happy with what you get . The guy I am working with went over alot of different things with me to help me be able to decide just how I want it
.
