Parting out a T | #4 | ||

KC,
I checked this guy out and it appears he thinks he's selling gold bars his prices are awfully high compared to other items I've seen for sale. I guess that comes from living in California. |

yeah, i was just back on the post and he does seem pretty high...even the shipping. $100-150 to ship exhaust. i've sold a number of exhaust and never cost
over $40-50 bucks to ship. glad he didn't have the floorboards, i probably couldn't afford them...or the shipping. actually don't even have a T yet
and already looking for accessories. the one i've been looking at is pretty "bare bones", so thought i'd check this guys prices. later, bud

Amen on the high shipping. The guy is just guessing I know but he really should check it out 1st before throwing out random numbers. I shipped a complete T
exhaust to Washington state from Alabama for only $47 . At $350 it was way over priced anyway. So far, he has been fair on the fork brace price. Lets see what
he quotes for shipping on that.

When I checked the shipping cost Iestimated 20lbs. and 3 day air was $49.00 and UPs ground was only $19.00. Not only that but the guy has either no email box
or an incorrect one so you can't email a reply.

I am the one parting out the T. Sorry for the misquote on the shipping, I looked on the Fedex and UPS web sites and didn't find anything cheaper. I should
have done more research. As for the prices, I have been going by the parts finder on the website http://www.houseofmotorcycles.com/. It has always been very close to the prices I pay at the dealers here. If my
prices are too high and you want something let me know. I do have a corbin seat that is very comfortable, a K&N filter and hitch if anyone is interested in
them.
You can e-mail me at xgrhow@cox.net Thanks, Jerry Howell |

Jerry,
It seems a bit odd to me for the asking price to be the same as new for a part that is used. More commonly the price of used parts is 1/2 to 2/3's what a new part costs assuming the part is in good shape. Are you saying that you are asking new prices for old parts? If so, it is obvious why riders would think your prices are high.

No, not asking the new price, I was just basing the price from that web page, which is accurate to what I pay for new parts. The rear fender I just sold has a
price of $1000 on the new part finder, I only asked $200 for it. Also, a saddlebag with the top, lock and hinge is well over $500, I only sold it for $100.
I wouldn't expect new prices out of used parts. Hopefully this makes sense. Jerry Howell |

And one more thing, I am asking well under half the original price for everything. The discrepency was, one rider stated he could get the mufflers for $300
each new, the webpage says they are $500 each. I was asking $150 each. That seems fair. But, if you can get the new ones for only $300 each, I would go with
the new ones.

First of all Jerry, welcome to the forum. Second, when looking for parts in the future, try these sources below. They have considerably lower prices on the
same parts. I buy most of mine at either MR Cycles, or Ron Ayers. Mr cycles list the top bridge at $104, and Ron Ayers at $112, while your source lists it at
$143. That's quite a big difference. Here are the links;

The source is full price, I was basing my parts at a percentage of the full price. I sold the top bridge for $50 including the shipping. I was only getting
the orginal prices from the source, which are very close to what I get my new parts from. I think the only thing everyone thought I was high on was the
mufflers. The source I use quoted them at $500 each. I asked $150 each. The rider from Texas said he could get them new for $300 each and for $150 for both
on E-Bay. I don't think I can explain this any better except if you need something I still have, ask, if the price is too high, let me know. My last two
posts explain some of the other things I have sold, the prices are way under half what the original prices are. I am not trying to make a fortune off these
items. I am even trying to save some of you money, by keeping them lower than most of the salvage yards.
Hope this explains things better. Jerry Howell |
