Some of you may remember that I dumped my bike while checking the air in the tires last August. Progressive did great and was VERY generous with the check
they gave me for the repairs.

Lucky you.....Progressive probably figured that since you couldn't stay on the bike, you'd never go anywhere and have an accident! Simple as that.

I just switched to Progressive when my previous company, BikeLine raised my premiums to what I felt was an excessive level since I have never made a claim. So
far, I think I made the right choice.

i'd be interested to know what you guys pay for Progressive. i've never checked, because i figured they couldn't beat my present policy through
State Farm. i realize location has a lot to do with the premium also, but i only pay around $74. a year for liability and comprehensive....63 years old and no
accidents or tickets...lately! i do have all my other insurance through them also, put i'd always thought Progressive as a company you might have a problem
with as far as a claim, but sounds like they've treated bob very well. later, bud

Bud.....I live in Upstate New York and our premiums would have to be higher than almost anywhere else in the country. I am with State Farm also. Have been with
them since 1967. I have always felt that their premiums were fair. I became especially indebted to them after they restored my home after a fire in 1989. They
were a super company to deal with and took care of me and my family in the best way. I will always be forever grateful to State Farm and they have my undivided
loyalty even if their rates were not the lowest. My feeling is that I have gotten MORE than I ever paid for, so I am way ahead of the game.

Insurance is a wild beast. The rates can vary a lot from one community to another. Alain, I see your point. State Farm was very good to you and I can
understand your loyalty. I was very loyal to State Farm until I did some rate and coverage comparing on bike insurance. When I saw the difference, I had to
change.
For my $153 I get $100,000/$300,000 Bodily injury liability. $50,000 property damage liabliity, $100,000/$300,000 uninsured/underinsured, comprehensive
collision with a disappearing $250 deductable, $3,000 accessory coverage and roadside assistance. Sue's 2001 Yamaha has the same coverage for $121.

For comparisons on rates, my brother has an '03 GL1800 and I have an '04. He is with State Farm and full coverage same as mktobob runs about $310
annually. I have same coverage amounts with Progressive on my '04 GL1800, plus roadside assistance and an additional $2000 for accessories, and my annual
rate is around $330. We are 5 years appart in age and live in the same town.

Stan,
I'll never understand the pricing models used by insurance companies. When I had my 03 wing, a 86 Virago 1100 and an 04 Reflex, my rates were a little under $400/year. When I sold the Reflex, my rates were going to be higher for two bikes. I just left the third bike/scooter on my policy. Andy |

Andy, full coverage by Progressive on my T runs about $120 annually coupled with the Wing. When the T sells I'll no longer get the multi-vehicle discount.
Guess my Wing rate will increase so the insurance savings will be somewhat less than the $120 T rate.

I HAVE TO WIPE THE TEARS FROM MY EYES WHEN I READ WHAT YOU GUYS IN THE U.S. ARE GETTING AWAY WITH AS FAR AS INSURANCE GOES. UP HERE IN THE GREAT WHITE
NORTH(AND IT IS VERY WHITE RIGHT NOW!) WE PAY ALOT MORE.! I AM PAYING AROUND $850.00 A YEAR FOR FULL COVERAGE ON MY 1998 T, AND THAT'S CONSIDERED PRETTY
GOOD IN MY NECK OF THE WOODS! I HAVE BEEN RIDING FOR 7 YEARS ON 2 WHEELS AND 34 YEARS ON 4 WHEELS WITH NOT EVEN SO MUCH AS A SPEEDING TICKET!

Since Progressive is by far the most affordable at $95 per year, I have stuck with them for the bike. I have never had to make a claim on the bike...but I felt like I got screwed after my daughter's accident last Easter. She had stopped at a stop sign about 2 blocks from the house and as she was making a right hand turn a pickup plowed across the front of he car. The investigating officer initially wrote her a ticket, but then tore it up after several witnesses came forward and told him what they saw and wrote another one on the other driver. The other driver was driving on the wrong side of the road and that was clearly apparent by the skidmarks that began less than two feet from the curb on her side of the street. I found out from a friend down at the court house that this "experienced" driver had been involved in four other accidents in the previous three months, but Progressive stuck to their original decision and hit my insurance with the claim going against my daughter.

Tex,
When I was shopping for replacement auto insurance, a few accidents kept showing up on my insurance reports. It seems there is an insurance information clearing house, similar to a credit reporting agency, which all major carriers check before quoting a policy. I believe the insurance companies also check this clearing house when getting ready to make rate changes. Any way, I challenged the integrity of their database, forcing them to remove a couple of accidents which never happened. After the items were cleared I was able to get a better rate. Yeah, it was a PITA and took time, but in the long run the effort paid off. I cannot remember the actual company name, but your Progressive bill should list the names of outside companies and agencies they check. Andy |
